Hi Guys, need some assist with a small (hopefully) snag. After changing the 12v battery on my 1997 325 tds, the ABS and ASC+T warning lights refuse to go out. They were ok until disconnecting the battery and every thing works ok . No problems with previous battery disconects. Any advice would be most wecome. Thanks in advance, Tony. ------------- Tony |

Have you driven the car since swapping the battery out? These systems reset themselves after driving off if there is no fault present.
Did you replace the battery with one of the correct amphour size, was it fully charged? These systems can be quite fussy when it comes to electrical power, if they aren't getting enough power they can throw the toys out of the pram.
Have you checked all the fuses? Was the ignition off when you swapped out the battery?
It could of course be pure coincidence and someting has failed, most likely one of your wheel sensors has failed, you will need a diagnositc check done to determine which sensor is at fault or other system fault. After that it is an easy diy job to swap one out. You can buy an OEM sensor from Eurocar parts.

Hi Andrew, thanks for a fast answer. The keys were in my pocket when battery was changed. I havent driven it on the road since, got to make some time today. The battery was sold to me as the correct one, Im told its the biggest battery on any road car. Dealer is last chace saloon. Thanks again, much appreciated, Tony. ------------- Tony |

Would be interested to hear what the size the battery is. According to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CC32&mospid=47446&btnr=61_1287&hg=61&fg=30" rel="nofollow - here it should be an 85 amphour size.

Hi, yes its an 85 ah battery and I gave it a good run out this morning, warmed the brakes up too, ne difference Im afraid. Looks I might have to bite the bullet. Thanks again for your prompt replys, Tony. ------------- Tony |

Battery is now not the source of the problem, sounds like it is just coincidence I'm afraid.
You'll need to get a diagnostic done on it. Get the fault codes read, make a note of them. Get them blanked from the memory then take for a drive and see if same fault codes re-appear. With that car, most garages with a basic diagnostic software reader will be able to find out what's at fault. No need to take the car to a BMW dealer.

Before you spend any money, disconnect the -ve terminal of the battery, leave it off for 30mins or so and then reconnect. If that doesnt work give all of the ABS rings a good rub down with a wire brush. -------------

Thanks for that. Ive tried disconnecting the battery to clear memory without any success. regarding the rings it will have to wait for a dry spell, no garage nowadays Im afraid Thanks again, much apprecciated, Tony. ------------- Tony |

| Check the fuses and the two ABS relays. if it is a Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) it should be intermittent where as yours is on solid could be module or abs pump. check they haven't become unplugged. |
