hi people,  The heaters in my e46 have a mind of their own.. they stopped working altogether and we changed the resistor (hedgehog thingy) which was located under the steering wheel at drivers side. this seemed to fix the problem for abt two to three weeks..then they stopped workin again. in the last week they've started to work on 1 and 2 setting, but if u turn it to 3 or 4 nothing happens.. i was told the risistor was blown cause water got in somewhere and blew the fan too. they suggested replacing the interior fan and the resistor ... my questions are a) is this the solution and b) is the interior fan a single or double fan., and where's this located? ( thinking just under wipers under the bonnet)??    - any and all help wud be mucho appreciated.. esp in this cold horrible weather....

If the fan has 'blown' why is it working on settings 1 & 2?

Did you replace with a genuine resistor? If not, I would replace with a genuine BMW part resistor and see if this solves the problem before i got into changing fan units.

water ingress onto the fan should be visible on inspection.
