Hi guys

I owned a 1997 E39 523i.

I want to have an diagnostic tool to read and program memory of electronic control units such as CAS modules.I search long time for this tool and only find one called BMW Scanner V2.20K+DCAN.

Is there anybody know this tool, how about it and is it can be used to other models of BMW?

Any information of this kind diagnostic tool is welcome.

I've seen several "code readers" available for this.

So far, none of them have been very good, some read a few codes, and the code descriptions are very vague and unreliable.

I've found no real alternative to the autologic software, which costs a lot of money, and for the very odd occasion you need it, (only once so far for me), it makes more sense to pay my local specialist £45, and he'll give me a printout of whatever it says.

Be very wary of software packages that are available, they can cause thousands of pounds worth of damage to your car.

^ +1 on that.

Somone on here a few years ago, damaged part of their car 'playing' with their code reader and then subsequently had his wallet relieved of four figures by his local BMW dealer to replace the part he 'played with'.

The diagnostic gear was then subsequently sold on Ebay by the forum member.

Yeah but I think the four figure sum that the BMW dealer took from him was still less than what he coughed up for his wedding!
