Hi all. My Dad in law has an 04 735i, and when you pull the bonnet release, nothing happens. Before I go investigating, does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

I take it that it doesn't even pop up? 
 
I'm assuming it is similar to the E60....Could be a broken bonnet release cable.  Take the trim off around the footwell and under the steering wheel and see if you can trace the cable.  I wonder if there is an emergency release like the fuel filler cap under the trim in the boot.  Might be something in the handbook?
 
My E60 bonnet wouldn't shut properly, had to take out the two locks (two screws then you can release the cable from the mechanisim to clean it properly and lubricate) and WD40 them then greased them back up and they have been fine since.
