Depends on the model of 3 Series.  If it's an E90 then fit a Westfalia.  They are OEM and are detachable.  Less than the cost of a BMW towbar (Westafalia).  I have a Westfalia on my E60.  You cannot see it at all when it has the neck removed.

OT

SWMBO told me to buy a car "capable of towing" so I got ..... an E30 M3

When she saw it she said "So where is the tow-bar?"

I replied "It's capable of towing, but it's never going to"
