Hi all my 535d engine has just seized prob down to small turbo blowing taking engine with it. My question do I go straight for replacement engine and turbos or do u let them strip it down and then decide both appear to cost a fortune. Any advice welcome thanks

When the turbo failed has it broken up and been injested by the engine? Turbo bearing failure due to lack of oil causes the turbo to spin not on a true axis which means the blades of the turbo touch the casing and break sending bits of what used to be turbo vanes into the inlet manifold and then into the cylinders.

This was a common cause of DIEsel engine failure on the E39 and E46. The oil feed pipe to the turbo bearings gets clogged and as a result the turbo bearings suffer from oil starvation. Never heard of it happening on the twin turbo E60s though.

Either way it will need its head taking off to see the damage then decision can be made on whether or not its scrap or repairable
