Topic: Police driver training visit
Posted By: barry b
Subject: Police driver training visit
Date Posted: 10-April-2014 at 22:04
There is the possibility of arranging a visit to the driver training department at 'Strathclyde Police' training centre in East Kilbride.
It would need to be an evening visit from about 7-9pm. Numbers would be limited to 20 and it would be towards the end of June.
The visit would consist of an input into police driver training, a chance to drive a manoeuvrability course and go out with one of the instructors for a demo drive( hopefully in a very nice 530!)
If anyone would be interested please add your name and depending on the response I can try to arrange it.
Thanks

I have just heard back from the guy at driver training,
Due to the commonwealth games the visit would need to be after they have finished.
He has proposed a Wednesday evening, 13th, 20th or 27th August.
What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Barry

27th would be best as just back from Gaydon on the 18th. Could still manage the 20th if required tho.

I'll be pushing my luck for those dates on the account that the E60 will have just had a baby seat fitted in the back.

Will probably not be allowed out......

Ok folks,

They have asked that we are there for 6.45 to start at 7.

The training centre is on eaglesham road (B764) at at roundabout with the junction of Ocein Drive in East Kilbride, G75 8GR.

If people are unsure of how to get there we could meet at Bothwell services, from there we would come off at the next junction(J5) which is the raith interchange and onto the A725 to East KIlbride. This can be very busy and I would suggest leaving the services no later than 6.20

I appreciate people will coming from work but the earlier we could meet the better.

Thanks
Barry

Firstly, thanks to Barry for organizing and to the instructors at the Police College - an educational and fun evening

The evening was an insight into the driver training police officers go through before being let loose on police business - their training takes a number of days

The visit was broken up into 3 sessions
  1. A slide presentation on driving skills, showing how to read the driving environment and the dangers to look out for. The Driving Signs quiz certainly showed how lacking our knowledge is, albeit some of the signs were obscure ones
  2. Driven by an instructor, giving us a running commentary whist driving of the things to watch for - this tied in with what was discussed in the slideshow
  3. For a bit of fun, we were let loose driving an obstacle course, consisting of - forward slalom, forward garage park, reverse out, reverse garage park, parallel park, reverse slalom, then back to the home garage
I sure everybody enjoyed the visit and that our driving on the way home was much improved on that on the way there
