Good! A chance to help as a new member.

I just did this a few days ago on my 89 E30. I, too, was considering the purchase of plastic polish. I have many different paint polishes and felt I should give them a try first. I am glad I did.

I first cleaned the window with an all purpose cleaner. Then I clayed. Once again cleaned it. That alone got rid of a lot of the yellowing. I fired up my porter cable, did two passes with Poorboys World SSR2 and then three passes of SSR1. Increasing speed and decreasing pressure each pass.

It looks mint. The inside is tough to get to. The previous owner had a sticker affixed from the inside and the adhesive needs more work to get off.

Short story: use paint polish and mops you have already.

Or what is to work nicely is the Mother's Powerball. It can be used for plastic headlamps, too.
