BMW is replacing the passenger airbags on 1.6 million 3 Series

Good on them. Given that the cost of replacing an airbag on a 1999 3er will cost more than the car is worth they must be nervous about it.
Not just BMWs but any vehicle with an airbag....
What are the chances of a 15 year old air bag still being able to deploy as designed? Will the material have degraded? Will the explosives at that age still work? You will hopefuly never need to find out.
