Driver window dropped during the week, (heard a slight pop as it wound down, thought nothing of it till I tried to bring the window up and it wouldn't) so I've taken the door apart per the http://www.impee.co.uk/windowregulator_repair.htm" rel="nofollow - impee.co.uk  guide.

I suppose my question is, how do I know I have to replace the regulator mechanism, is there anything else I should check before I proceed? The motor sounded like it was working before I disconnected the battery.

Edit: Would I be a fool to reconnect the battery while everything is in the mess it's in?

Or should I just bite the bullet and replace it?
