Hi Want to get my valve cover and plenum powder coated soon. Any ideas on what I can expect to pay (dont want to get ripped off). Also can anyone recomend anywhere in Berkshire or surrounding areas ?. Thanks. |

I've seen someone advertise this for £80 - £100 for the cam cover. Moseleys charge about £250 for the cam and the plenum . I did mine myself with a £7 can of paint from Frost and 2 years on it still looks good.

www.frost.co.uk they sell paint sold as MG wrinkle paint for the dashboards in cars like the MGB . Its actually VHT high temp paint .
I found the paint a real PITA to use . Its clogs the nozzle all the time ,to the point that when I did the cam cover I had 4 other nozzles ready to use. I used some paint stripper to clean it back and then used some ally primer , and left until it was ' tack ' dry and then applied a coat of the wrinkle paint about every 10 mins or so . I found the best way to get a good wrinkle finish was to hold the can a long way from the cover and ' dust ' it with paint. I could see how some people would easily give up using this paint but it worked for me and the results are still very good , not to mention the £200 saved means I could buy something else .

I had mine done...cost around £40 I think. Then I polished the lkettering myself! BMG's approach sounds good. Frosts is the best place for any of that sort of stuff.. you think crinkle is hard to work with..wait til you try POR15.
BTW.. that's a good effort seing as you only used the one can... well done, it looks original. Nick |

Kevin , the strut bar is the cheapo Sparco steel item £40 - £50 I believe.
Nick , Frosts also do a red crackle paint which I have a can of but have yet to try on my spare cam cover . I think that would look quite good. Codhead's Evo 2 cam and plenum cover looks the nuts for £130 . Moseleys want £250 for the Evo style and £280 for the black .... have they got that the right way around ? |

Too bad the white is too white for an Evo 2 cam cover. Or was that on purpose. On my Evo 2 it has much more 'cream' tones... (if that's a correct expression) In the States they use Harley Davidson crinkle paint if that's any help. You can bake the paint off in the oven to have it dry faster and attach better... Don't go above 60 degrees Celcius though! Adwo |
