any e30 rear seat will fit. however, some m3 rear seats only seat 2 people an dare designed this way ------------- |

Hi The correct rear seats in a e30m3 are different they are like two sculpted bucket seats and are also slightly lighter. However any seats from the e30 fit Hope this helps ------------- PIRATE PETE |

actually i'm looking to fit rear head rests when/if i get them covered in leather next year, therefoire want to know if normal E30 headrests will fit Sean ------------- track-monkey.co.uk |

I think you will need a different seat back.
The M3's that I have known don't have the holes in the top to take the headrests. Nick |

Hi guys I would have imagined the M3 seat back would be the same as normal E30 with respect to fitting rear headrests. If you remove the seat back you should see where the brackets fit. You just need to the make holes in the top of the seat and fit the headrests with the cover to make the hole neat. BTW the part number for the fitting kit is 52.20.9.058.393, available from your dealer. Hope this helps. |

If my memory serves me correct, Im sure I have retro-fitted rear headrests in an E30 before, back in the days of being in a workshop.
I think the metal frames for the seats are all the same. You just need to remove the seat, and from the rear, have a look to see if the brackets are fitted in the upper part of the frame (horizontal bar with 2 holes in, I think!). Retro-fitting is quite east once you got all the gubbings. How do you remove the rear seat back? Mine needs to be removed to be refitted correctly and it looks like a crawl about inside the boot job to me. |

To remove the rear seat back pull up the lower seat cushion and remove, then look down in the corners you should see 2 10mm bolts normally hidden by excess material from the doorcards, undo these and then pull the seat up and free.
Ratbark as I did say in my previous post the brackets are available from the dealer to fit headrests for £17, part no 52.20.9.058.393, that's all that needs doing is to make some small holes in the top of the seat. All the provisions to fit this bracket are in the seatback, wether your seat is a sprung seat or foam. |

E30 m3 did have rear head restraints. My e30 is fitted with head restraints and a rear blind and its all factory fitted. I have a spare seat back(325) i have modified for use with my rollcage this is also fitted with headrests but the headrests are are much bulkier. I am sure the restraints are interchangeable but i think they would look crap. cheers ------------- PIRATE PETE |

Why have headrests in a Sport Evo anyway ? It is meant to be a light weight street racer.Unless I were driving a lot of the time with passengers in the back where these could be seen as anti whiplash in the event of an accident, I wouldn't bother , they block rear vision , add weight and don't even look good .....just an opinion .

I agree you do not need headrests but if some one wants leather aircon etc who are we to judge them. I will probaly sell all the interior of mine at the end of the summer s most of it is in the garage anyway. cheers ------------- PIRATE PETE |
