I did mine a couple of weeks ago with no problems.
On my E36 3.0 there are a couple of tiny screws in the back of the steering wheel to remove the horn/airbag assembly & once it's free there are two electrical connector plugs. One for the horn & the other for the airbag.
Once they're disconnected the centre nut for the wheel can be undone & hey presto, the wheel is of.
It's recommended that you disconnect the battery before you start to avoid "testing" the airbag, but I never bother.
When fitting the new wheel, ensure all wires are clipped back, as I didn't & my horn wnet off every time I turned to full lock. The wires got trapped & the insulation wore through.
Also, ensure sterring is perfectly straight & the steering lock is on before you start.
Hope this helps.

Paul

If its on an E30, then I would be very careful - Careful with any to be honest.

I asked my mechanic if he would do mine when it went in for service a while back and flatly refused. He said "with the age of the wiring and the fact is has the 1.5l airbag, I want to keep my face thanks"

I guess each to their own....

ALWAYS disconnect battery.Wait at least 5 seconds for dissapation of electricity. Then it's safe to work on.Don't reconnect battery until you reconnect the airbag wiring or you will have to get the airbag warning light reset by BMW.

Well how about that! What country was it imported from?

Does anybody have a UK spec car with an airbag? It just proves that you really do learn something new everyday.
