Given the amount of posts some people have with the forum I was considering modifying the group star scheme (or at least the titles).
Given that we have 3 Really Senior Member II, is it time to re-arrange the group structure? There is currently nothing higher than this level. Should the group names be humerous?

The current structure is:-
Guests -  - unregistered and logged out members - they can read all messages but only post messages to the website & announcements board.
Newbie -  - registered members up to 40 posts - these members can vote in polls
Groupie -  - registered members up to 100 posts - these members can vote in polls
Senior Member I -  - registered members up to 150 posts - these members can vote in polls and create sticky topics
Senior Member II -  - registered members up to 250 posts - these members can create polls, sticky topics
Really Senior Member -  - registered members up to 500 posts - these members can create polls, sticky topics
Really Senior Member II - registered members over 500 posts - these members can create polls, sticky topics
Moderator -  - these members can post new polls and edit/move/delete posts. If they edit a post then the moderator's username and the time are shown on then post.
Admin -  - the boss!

Keep it as is, but folk over 1000 posts can define their own 'group' title?

I thought about suggesting various other schemes but have ended up voting for leaving it as it is.

Are you trying to keep the the number of "really senior member II's"  down? Maybe if you could base the group on the average number of posts over the last year or 9 months or 6 months....something like that which would reflect active members as opposed to those who have been on the forum a long time and built up the number of posts

Ah, I wondered what they all meant.

What is a sticky topic?

A sticky topic is one that is is pinned at the top of the threads list symbolised by the  icon. It stays at the top of the list of threads (below announcements) and doesnt get shifted down a page as new threads are created.

It is listed below announcements  (which have an even higher priority)

I'm with Kevin on this, base the seniority on the number of posts over a recent span of time, rather since joining, otherwise we'll all become Really Really Senior Members IIIII eventually !!

Do you mean someone who posted their 1st 100 messages this month becomes higher than someone with 500 but haven't posted this month? It would be tricky enough as the current system just bases itself on a post count field in the database.

I was actually thinking of having something like the groups like on http://www.boards.ie - www.boards.ie  (maybe not quite as corny):-

  • 0 - 4 posts: Newbie
  • 5 - 49 posts: Cool Newbie
  • 50 - 99 posts: Fast Newbie
  • 100 - 249 posts: Crazy Poster
  • 250 - 499 posts: Insane Poster
  • 500 - 999 posts: Freak
  • 1000+: No Life
  • Just looking at it now, maybe its not as good an idea as I had thought.

On this note, should I increase the amount of stars awarded to senior members, etc? At the moment they all get 5 (). Maybe I could increase the star rating to 10 like below

    Yes / No?

    Hmmmmm, that's another good idea,

or maybe, as KB himself said >>
"Just looking at it now, maybe its not as good an idea as I had thought."

So perhaps this is another "it ain't broke (yet?) so lets not mend it (yet)?"

We should keep it simple, with not more than 5 stars (we will not have room for words otherwise!!)

I like the idea of ranking according to number of posts in a recent period (6/12 months ??) rather than from day 1 as it would be more meaningful.
