...rather like this one?

The lenses come from Sweden, and the manufacturer is the only one catering for the E24 in this respect. They are about 60 Euros for a pair, plus 20 Euros postage. However, the manufacturer is out of stock at the moment, with no indication as to when there may be another production run.

However, if you want a drool over something which you can't have at the moment, you can visit http://www.algonet.se/~kinnby/shop/e24_sv.htm - Mats Kinnby's Styling Shop

Interestingly, Mats says he is developing clear rear lenses for the E24 too....

Well, that's my 1983 car you've been looking at! The orange centres are a reflection caused by the amber bulbs which you have to install in order to pass the MoT...

Ivan, could you use the latest bulbs that flash orange but are silver so you don't get the orange centre effect. I did have a link but have lost it after I decided to stay with the orange lenses on mine.

I've seen these "silver" bulbs in use, and I have to say that I think the brightness of these is noticeably reduced, particularly in bright sunlight. There is no way I'm going to shell out for something that could compromise safety.

Instead, I will continue with my long-standing project to create clusters of extreme-brightness LEDs....

Sorry I wasn't aware of your extreme LED project. LED's seem to be everywhere now. Good Luck.

Only because I don't really want to have to change bulbs if I can help it.

The only problem I've experienced in my experiments so far is that the LEDs consume so little current, that the Check Control warning lights are triggered!

Since it was my intention to replace all the bulbs with LEDs, what I would really need is either:

1) something to simulate the current consumption of a bulb, i.e. a suitable resistor wired in parallel with each LED cluster "feed"; or

2) in the case of the indicators, a flasher relay which is "load insensitive", i.e. it won't be fooled into thinking that no bulb is present. Problem is that I don't know anyone who makes / sells such a relay which is suitable for BMWs.

The flowery cushion is an essential aftermarket part to compensate for a shagged-out driver's seat squab... They are usually supplied in pairs or sets of 4...

Not sure if Wigoder's in Ireland would have something similar...

The first car looks like the one which belongs to an acquaintance of mine: Alan Rosenbaum. He fitted clear lenses to his.

Most of the clear lens sets find buyers in the United States, and maybe the odd one or two in Europe. I do not know of any UK RHD cars which carry them, other than my notorious example!

Nice car but I'm not sure about the wheels.

Those are two different US-spec cars you're looking at! The last one is a bit questionable as far as the wheels are concerned, I do agree!

NEWS UPDATE: a new batch of clear indicator lenses has been produced by Mats Kinnby, and these can now be ordered from him via his Website (see earlier postings).

Just looking at those picks of the US spec cars. Are the bumpers different from Euro spec models?

Up until the 1988 model year, US-spec cars were saddled with Federal 5mph bumpers front and rear, which jutted out considerably further than those on the Euro-spec cars. They were sometimes nicknamed "Park Benches", as you could sit quite comfortably on them...

I wondered why the bumpers looked so big. Bit of a shame really, for the Americans anyway, because in my opinion it spoils the look of the whole car.

It took until 1988 for the US-spec cars to share the same "Highline" bumpers as the ones over here...

Not seen clear lenses on a red car, must admit. They do look well on white, black and dark blue cars, though. Will have to trawl the Net at some stage to see if I can find you a view or two...
