Had a slight rattle on start up a few weeks ago in the Sport (525 M50 engine) so I changed the oil (Castrol magnatec) and filter and never heard any thing of it since! Until I just went to go to the shops, a louder clatter from the engine which disapeared straight away.  Am I right in thinking it has hydraulic lifters? has any one experienced this and what was the cause?

Cheers Warren

My 525 Sport (M50 Engine) does exactly the same for a couple of seconds on a cold start, it is the hydraulic tappets before they have pressurised with oil. Nothing to worry about if the noise goes away after a couple of seconds.
