A few pics are there from when I first got it to a respray that I gave it and got quite cheap - the following pics were only a few months afterwards, albeit following a slight accident where i came off the road at 90mph! Closecall but the beast is still strong!

It's a 1990 520i - when I find the USB cable for my camera I'll show pics of my parents Red 1991 520i and recently purchased Green 1989 520i!

The whitey is in the garage the now getting stripped and sanded for a lot of ideas to be applied now!  Be a while before its complete though!

(Just thought I'd give a wee background there as I'm a newbie by the way! - HI!)

Decided to give her a wash and polish and take some new pics so here they are. She looks all warm and fuzzy there, shame it wont stay like it.

Jon post some of it now its always nice to see before and after pics.

I have updated my pictures above with ones i took today after cleaning and polishing it. Auto Glym bodywork shampoo, polish and the infamous black and decker quatro with polish mit & buffer attachment :) takes the ****** hard work out of polishing thats for sure.

Jay B: Auto-cruise on ebay are good prices for silvatec bulbs i have used them a few times and prompt well packaged gear.

If you have the clear side repeaters like i do you need 1 of http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=28644&item=7903784230&rd=1 - these  and for the front and rears you need 2 of http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=28644&item=7903690290&rd=1 - these  they work out delivered £11.00 per pair rather than BM town or others £15 + delivery. You dont use them enough for them to blow that quick so over the long term they are well worth the money.

Thx BMWE34sport, its nice to see so many good examples still lovingly being cared for and driven. I have seen various good examples in and around gt yarmouth over the last 2 weeks since the suns been out and i saw a very very very nice 635 csi in immaculate condition as i was driving along. I gave the gentleman a nod of appreciation and let him out of the turning he was trying to get out of and followed him admiring the beauty for about 5 minutes before i turned into my drive.

Touching on the M5 topic if anyone spies a good example in black gimme a shout im still on the look out for one.

I was thinking about selling mine but alas i doubt anyone would pay the 3-3.5k i want for it so i guess ill just have to keep it. I personally think its worth that and thats what i would be prepared to pay for such a mint condition low mileage motor of this age.

It will only sell to an enthusiast as others wont know or care what they are getting for their money. Now the fan is sorted and fixed the overheating issue i had last week i may even just wait til the tax is due to run out and garage it for future adoration.

Have they changed the dash as the E60 i looked at had a flowing dash from one side to the other it didn't have 2 pods (where the screen is) or is that how they look with the optional screen? I must say that does look very nice i do like the interior styling. However i don't think bmw have put too much in to exterior styling (yes its noticably different but still bland).

Anyway im outta here for 3 weeks cya all in the middle of august.

Here's mine - if you also go on the BMW5.co.uk forum, sorry - you've seen this lot already!

A 1997 540i Touring Auto with the following options:

M suspension

M steering wheel

Comfort seats

6 CD changer

Retractable load floor

GSM car phone

Debadged

It's also still under the BMW warranty which is a real boon and probably rare at this age. One previous owner and 76,000 miles.

Had it 5 weeks, get 23mpg average (unprintable lows, highs of 26-27 on long trips) and absolutely love it.

It was totally standard when I got it but soon updated to angels plus clear side and rear lights (all without those nasty orange bulbs ). Wheels left alone as they never kerb, look great after 7 years and have affordable tyres. Gone for Goodyear F1 GS-D3's which I can highly recommend - quiet, comfortable and grip like leecehes

This no badge estate car has already surprised a few people

(Blue=edited text, May 2005)

hi retset i could not disagree more i think your tourer is abeaut, and as for looking as good as a saloon with the mobs you have listed i think it would look better ,modded saloons are here there and every were but tastfully modded tourers are few and far between, and such a sweet colour. Nice motor fella..

b8aulk,

Thanks for the nice comments. Yes, she is a beaut and I really dig the colour even though it isn't the easiest to keep clean.

It'll probably remain standard but I keep an eye on ebay etc. If some angel eyes come up at a decent price (not £300+ which is nearly dealer price) then I'll be sorely tempted. The wheels I have (16") look quite nice and give a decent ride and yet the handling is still superb so they may as well stay.

That said, Alpina ones are a fave of mine and one day I may see some original ones or reps and be unable to help myself...

I wish she was looking as fine now..... She's very dirty, is carrying a lot more stone chips and three dents due to F***wits at work that can't park

Still brings a smile to my face when I see her though!

As much as i love the E34 and more so the M5 i still cant shake the out of place feeling looking at the M5's with the different coloured bottom part of the M-Tech kit. It kind of makes the car try to be a two tone but not quite pull it off that well.

That aside Derek thats a very lovely example, shame about insensitive people.

The 'Shadowline' trim was IIRC a no cost deletion - as was the boot spoiler & debadging - at time of purchase so you do occasionally see a one tone example

Looking good Derek M5.
very nice in black, suits the car down to a tee.

never seen them with the shadowline trim, so good to see and thanks for the info on it.

know what you mean about people in the work car park.
some damn fool has put loads of little scratches up the drivers side of mine.
cant believe people are so careless when it comes to colleagues cars.

ive got a pic of mine i could put up, but its from when i just got it, so doesnt have any of the new bits on.
plus it doesnt look as nice as most of the ones ive seen on here so id be a bit embarrased.

Here is a picture of my old M5 when i first got it, it had 4 broken headlights, broken foglights and very dirty/kerbed wheels.

Well as I've finally taken some pictures of my E34 I thought I'd better put them up here.  At the moment the car's pretty much an original 1995 525i SE except for the wheels, I'm planning on a few modifications with the lights though, going to put in clear indicators and a new set of headlights as the set on there at the moment are badly chipped and the n/s full beam develops a small pond inside every time it rains, contemplating putting some goldfish in there  (joke!)

Paul.

I know theyre not a patch on the superb examples on this forum, but heres some pics of mine. Was in a terrible state when i got it, but have done all the work myself (helps to be a mechanic sometimes!), including a few subtle but hidden mods, and a couple of surprises.

Thanks Russ. Wish it was as nice as yours! But then it is only a lowly 520iSE

Thanks Russ

So Ian, any chance you might divulge what some of the interesting mods are to your car?  I can't see anything too obvious under the bonnet....

Paul.

Engine has had a bit of work,

Comp ratio up to 10.1:1 from 9.4:1

Crank and rods strengthened

Cam changed

Head been reworked and ported

Larger valves

Oil cooler plumbed in

Running separate fuel and ignition ECUs

Headlamps altered to show 4 dip beams or 4 main beams

Car is extremely docile and smooth around town but changes character when it hits 3500rpm when all hell breaks loose. Power output is now up to 202 and that is only 11hp down on the 34-6K-B engined 535 and 5 more than the 525s
