Help!   I have tried to post a couple of images on the forum, but I don't seem to have found the knack. Could someone try to explain to me how to use the imaging system.

Much obliged, a picture is worth a thousand words when you are describing technical procedures,

I just press the image button and give it the URL of the image I want displayed. It automatically grabs the picture from the internet.

You cant upload images from your PC though, so if it's not "out there" on the internet somewhere, you can't display it. It's handy to have your own web space for this. For example - here is what I'd use for an avatar, if they didn't have to be so piddly small on this forum:

That's me trying to look fast

Big images make for slow downloads!

Thank you Howard.
This incidentally was mentioned to me today by a forum member -  that some people are using fairly large images in their signatures.
I must insist that for people out there (including myself) still using 1950's telephone technology (56K dial up) this adds considerably to the download times for pages.
Therefore I am insisting that images be no more than about 10-15 Kb. (To check just right click on the image and choose properties) - Myself and the other moderators have the power to remove peoples signatures and will use this power if necessary.

Sorry for being bossy but it must be said

Hi Alex, Hi Killion

Thanks for your help. I agree that images should not be too big as long downloads can be boring.

Mark - file size is cool. Can you stick to the guideline size of 250x100 pixels as published here - http://www.bmwcarclubgb.co.uk/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=22&TopicID=10&PagePosition=1">http://www.bmwcarclubgb.co.uk/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=22&TopicID=10&PagePosition=1 ?

FWIW, you should probably remove the space from the file name too or replace it with an underscore my_car.jpg

Cheers,

Duncan
