Well, just back from Franceland where they have decent roads. I ended up putting in about 3 1/2 tankfuls of go-fast juice (98Ron for €1.03/L) which helped me cover 1437 miles - not bad considering that on the to & from journeys I had a full car and a roof box! The first tankful went for over 600 miles! I even managed to drive for five or six miles on the autoroute on the way home on Saturday at approx 120mph and was getting a reading of 20mpg (I however, kept an average speed on the autoroute of just over 95mph which was nice). Oh to be back on decent roads - no pot holes & even their B-roads have good camber (camber is something that is obviously not covered in Irish Engineering University courses!) ------------- Current: 2009 E60 520d "Sport" tractor Previous: 1989 E30 320i SE 1997 E39 523i 2003 E39 525i Sport Individual |

I always look forward to Irish roads - the new stuff's passable, but the old stuff (usually the "R" and worn-out "N" routes) causes more damage to the spine than an entire career spent sitting in an office! Besides, that's what they designed the Fiat Punto for... Having said that, the road surfaces in Dublin (particularly along both sides of the Liffey) are just disgraceful. You'd get better ride quality on the Moon. -------------

A fine comedy moment, as the Punto came screeching to a halt, followed by the sound of it reversing.... That is no ordinary Trabant, but a rare P601S estate. What I want to know is: how in God's name did it survive long enough to get to Achill, and is it still there??? -------------

2nd those emotions, just back from another weekend getting reacquainted with my loved one - why oh why did I leave the M-car over there with the missus????
