Subject: Duplicate keys, where to buy them

Hi, I've just purchased a 1988 535i and it's only come with one key, all the rest being lost in the mists of time.  I visited my local key cutting facility and when asked they said they wouldn't cut me one since they often have problems with them working.

He suggested going to BMW but indicated that this may be costly.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the most cost-effective way to obtain a fresh WORKING duplicate key?

Thanks

A transponder (chip key immobiliser) key for my 1996 E34 540 is £25 from BMW so it should be less than that.

Many thanks, He thought it was much more than that.  I guess he was thinking of transponder type keys and mine is just a plain vanilla key.

I'll make a 'phone call to my local garage tommorrow, thanks.

My local key cutter did me a spare on my 89, E34, it works fine, no immobiliser on mine either
