i have a 1989 325i sport and have a strange problem.

From empty the car wont take more than £30 worth of fuel and the gauge only shows just under 3/4 of a tank.
Whats the problem? why wont it fill right up????????

How do you know the tank isn't full, just because the petrol gauge shows 3/4 of a tank, doesn't mean it isn't.

Sounds like either the sender unit or the gauge is at fault.  Try the gauge first as this is the easiest to reach. You will find the fuel pump and sender unit under the back seat, under a black plate held down by four screws..!
