I have a 1999 E46 328i that has had the clutch repalced twice due to a popping / clicking action in the pedal when pressing and releasing the clutch.  This problem goes away when the car gets hot.

Anyone else experienced the same problem ?? As usual, BMW are denying any problem exists...

BMW clutches/boxes aren't the best as mine is difficult to get in gear (common) and can be baulky. It more or less dissappears when warm. Its had a new clutch (dealer), but still there.

When in neutral idling you can just about hear the input shaft spining and when the clutch is depressed, it should stop as it does sometimes. Othertimes it still spins when the clutch is depressed and I know then it will not go in gear easily. Seems like the clutch doesn't dissengage properly - but why it does it sometimes, I don't know.

When the clutch was done was it a full kit? Housing, thrust bearing, clutch plate. It does sound like dodgy housing springs.

in my experience bmw are notorious for replacing bits of clutches, not the whole kit as you or i would.
