Does anyone know of any other types of engine transplants that could be used in a E-30 (1990 - Convertible). I have seen large Chevy & Ford V8s on american boards. I would like to put in a large capacity rover v8 (caridinal sin I know but you've got to love the sound). Any information (of a usefull nature) gratefully accepted.

from what i can remember rover v8's produce 150 bhp in carb form and 190 bhp in injection form, a 4.4 bmw v8 produces 286 bhp as does the e28 m5 engine "out of the box" or other mpower engines are even more powerfull, i also think the rover bellhousing is too large to fit in the transmission tunnel without serious surgery.check out http://www.e30.de">www.e30.de for some bmw based transplants.....unless you allready have a WELL tuned rover engine and box i think you would be better of with a 335 "big 6"conversion or other bmw based engine. hope this helps -------------

cossie conversion fits. 330bhp without any stress. i also have an e30cab running the alpina 2.7. |

BMW V12 will fit which gives indication of scope available. However bear in mind with any much larger engine the weight/balance/handling is seriously affected. I agree that if you want a cursory look around, check out http://www.e30.de">www.e30.de. Only adavntage with the rover over the heavy bmw six is the weight as its an alloy engine so its much lighter, i used to be very much into the off roading scene and the engines some people put in land rovers etc are rediculous in some cases but the rover v8s were always alot quicker obviously tuned ones but the weight helped the balance aswell as the speed. go to http://www.rpiengineering.co.uk">www.rpiengineering.co.uk for rover v8 information. -------------

Mark-C / more than likley but at this stage I am still sourcing the right engine & gearbox. Have been quoted for an E-34 with man. gearbox. Main problem is that the convertible I have bought needs quite a large amount of remedial work before I start on the engine. Some people just don't know how to look after a car. Would appreciate info in respect of potential M5 conversion - not thaat Im looking for a road burner - Drive an new saab 95 aero as a daily driver and need a convertible for a bit of fun.

Just a thought on V8/big straight 6 conversions, has anybody ever considered a TVR tuned Rover V8 or one of TVR's home brewed motors? There must be written off TVR's all over the place! I also seem to recall in Car and Car Conversions sometime ago an E30 M3 with a highly tuned Rover V8 that once propelled a Range Rover, Sacrilige I know, but sounds interesting, doesn't it? -------------

| yep i saw that. it was silver wasnt is. 300 odd bhp and 400+ft/lbs of torque. he said you could pull away in forth and then keep it in the same gear all the way up to 120mph. mad |
