I would like to give my 320i touring a bit (Lot!) more power. Would the 325i engine drop in without too much fuss or would i not notice much of a power increase?

Why not just buy a 325i?

Not to difficult i shouln't think but i'd just but a 325i get all the extras that comes with one then and probably less problems.

hello window man

the fact that you have a 320 greatly simplifys matters. as the lump will drop straight in + plus theres no modifying of the loom. existing g/box can be used, ecu has to be swaped though. the power difference will be very noticable, as opposed to the 32o"s falt power curve. bags more torque too.

Thanks for the replys! The reason why i do not want to buy a 325 is because i have done such a lot of work on my 320 also it is a manual which i seem to remember being quite rare in the 325 touring. I think i will start looking for a engine + ecu. Hopefully i will notice the power difference!

Thanks

hello window man.

i understand what you mean. its up to you what you want to do to your car. well worth doing though.

where are you based by the way. the reason i ask this is because i break e30"s you see. and i can probably get all the stuff you need.

ive just a an 89 325 come in but the engine is pritty much spoken for im afraid.

cheers mate.

jonb,

You break e30's you say, don't happen to have a LSD for a 1988 325i do you?

Check the gearboxes first. Some 320i used a Getrag 240/5 (early ones may even have had a ZF unit) while the 325i used a Getrag 260/5. I don't think they are compatible but could be wrong.

If you do the change, also consider upgrading to front ventilated brake dics (if you don't have them) - you just need the calipers and discs.

Thanks for the replys. jonb i live in Leatherhead in Surrey. Where are you? I think i will start looking around for a 325 engine in good nick as i would love to give it the extra umph. When i was looking around for my car i was told by a friend that had both models (320 and 325) and he said their was not that much difference in power but i think he must be wrong?

im in bristol. about 100 or so miles. ;(

the power difference is very noticable, as theres a hike of about 50bhp. worth doing i think.
