Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me.

I have a 95 E36 M3 convertible with the electric roof.  The problem is on the drivers side in the rear there are some pieces of string/bungee cord which hold the roof around the frame, unfortunately the black plastic fixing that holds these cords to the inner lining has broken.  The littile clips have all snapped in half.  I would have a go myself but am unsure of the right type of glue, how tight it should be, etc. (basically i'm gonna bottle this repair job).  Also my rear plastic window could do with replacing so i was gonna have this done at the same time.

Does anyone know how hard this is to fit, or of any reputable repairers in East Anglia?  Anywhere in a 100 mile radius would be good.  I live in sunny (yeah right) Great Yarmouth.

Cheers

Rob.

Got exactly the same problem with mine..  Bloody clips.  I have tried "araldite rapid" but it didnt set hard enough by the time i put the hood back up.  I think if you have somewhere to leave the car with the hood down for a night, the glue would set hard and it would sort it.  I found it easy to get the strings in the right place as you just locate the tags on the end of the strings back in the clips and smother it in glue.

Gonna try mine again this week.

Rob,

Regarding the roof give lind BMW at norwich a ring 01603 620 222 speak to someone in parts (paul is ok) and ask them if you can get replacement clips. If they can it will be better that way.

In regards to the rear window if you take a trip to gapton hall industrial estate drop into auto glass which is past mcdonalds and first turning on the right (you can see the signs from the main road) they will probably be able to give you an idea of replacing the rear window and if you get the part yourself from BMW they will fit it for a few quid.

I am pretty handy with most things on a car except the mechanics so if you want a hand doing the clips etc let me know im only down the road in bradwell.

Cheers boys.

Thanks for the info.  I have "obtained" some small plastic clips from work which look exactly the same as the ones attached to the plastic plate.  So i will remove the old ones with a scalpel and araldite on the new ones afer threading in the strings.

Thanks for the offer of help Russ.  Have you ever fitted any trim in the interior?  I have a walnut-type trim but the bit round the gearshift has a crack in it.  Also, would you know a good place to get replacements from apart from lind?  I believe it was fitted from new.

Laters.

Good to know you got a solution for the clips.

Regarding the Interior trim question, every car i have owned and alot that i have not (friends and family) i have had probably every piece of trim out for some reason or another, so i would say I am confidently competent to tackle most if not all interior issues.

Heres one i prepared earlier :)

Just a little clio i am working on switching the guts from one car to another for the wife for running around in for work.

I am going off shore thursday (2nd Sept) for 2 weeks so if you need any help with anything when i get back just give me a PM or reply here.

In regards to where to get parts you can try motormec at lowestoft or GFS/Euro Car Parts to see if they do the parts but i fear it will probably be main dealer for separate parts (if they do them separate).
