Can anyone else smell petrol when they get out of their car or is it just my car?

Any ideas?

Cheers and have an accident free weekend all

You have a petrol leak

mine smells as well. Not all the time.
I have been crawling under my car countless times. Never found any leak.
Just to make sure, is your filler cap sitting properly?
Mine is a bit heavy to get on sometimes and I notice this straight away by the smell of petrol.
Another thing, is your Lambda probe disconnected?

Nope! Mine as well, but only after I've fueled it, so I've put it down to that.

Uwe,

Mine is an Evo2, is Lambda not connected?

It doesn't smell all the time, mainly notice a smell after a long trip. I can see no leaks in the engine bay or on the ground.

Anywhere specific to look. It only had a service 500 miles ago or so, I would have thought he'd have seen a leak.

The petrol cap is fine.

Cheers

Kevin

Check the fuel hoses that go to the fuel rail, mine have small cracks in the hose where the clips hold on the hoses, pull on the hose, check for dampness.

Check the hoses at the rear of the car that connect to the fuel pump. On left hand side underneath front of rear wheel. These fuel hoses usally perish and cause small leaks.

Worth a look.

Pete, Dawie

Cheers

I'll have a look when I've finished cleaning the thing.

I've been using the gliptone stuff on the leather, good so far, not that it was bd to start with.

Also check the fuel filter - mine leaked underneath the stainless steel jubilee clips clamped onto the ally filet - the filter housing just corroded away!

Had a look in the engine bay and underneath in front of the nearside rear wheel and there is no damp anywhere.

I'll have a look again when I can smell it after a run.

Cheers for the pointers chaps.

Looking forward to meeting a few chaps at Gaydon

Kevin
