Its time for some new rubber all round on the 5.  Its running 225/55/16's.  I have a very good price on Pirelli P7's and an unbelievable price on Nankang's (€130 for P7, €100 for Nankang vs €196 for Michelin Pilots).

I've run Conti's since I've had it and gotten about 20k from the current rears and the fronts have a total of over 30k (were on the rear until last change).  I've had a quote for about €175 on these.

Appreciate thoughts or feedback on experiences you've had on the these or others.

Diarmuid, I have Goodyear Eagle F1 on my fronts (235/45/17) and they are great at sticking to the tarmac. IIRC I paid about €160 for these.

check out http://www.eiretyres.com - www.eiretyres.com also.

I'm told the Dunlop SP 5000 or 9000 are the best for the E39.

Thanks guys.

Read a Which report on tyres (based on 205/55/16's) that rated the Brigestone Potenza's highest with the Pirelli's not far behind.  They didn't test the f1's at that size (they did at 225/45/17's and they rated joint highest with the Conti Sport Contact)

Killian, prices are good with Eirtyres for the Goodyears, but the prices I have include fitting and balancing, so for the P7's work out about €20-25 a corner more than my quote (this is from TJ's recommendation on the 3 forum), assumming a fiver a corner for fitting the Eirtyres ones.

Sorry, meant to say, Which didn't test the SP5000 or 9000.  They did test the SP Sport 01 at 205/55/16 and that rated close to the P7's.  On Eirtyres the SP9000 works out about €40 a pop more than the P7.

I use Dunlop SP9090's allround (235/45/17 ft 255/45/17 rear)  I am happy with the performance and I've only had them on for 500 miles so they are just coming good!  No excessive roadnoise etc

They were £98.80 each fitted for the fronts and £107.50 for the rears.  I think the Dunlops we're O.E fit when I got the car - I've had Pirelli P6000's and Conti Eco contacts all were very good.

You're right, the Dunlops are the OE fit on the E39.  I think the SP2000's but have since moved on to the 5000 & 9000.

Guys

TJ's contact, Rathcormac Tyres are still in the lead on pricing and they are close enough to me to make it worthwhile.  Tried Dave McCann and Eiretyres and Rathcormac still beat the best of the others by €20 a pop for P7's.  Looks like I'll give them a try.

Thanks for all the comments and advise.
