The front end looks awful, the side veiw isn't bad. I suppose it will look better on the inside looking out.

There was a French man who hated the look of the Eifel tower so much he went to the cafe at the top every morning, because it was the only place in Paris he couldn't see it..

How about making a list of the ugliest cars ever made?

a few to start,
Ford Scorpio (front end ugly)
Any Chris Bangle designed BMW

Dare I say it's not quite as bad as the latest 5 and 7 perhaps?  The design might suit the smaller body better.
We'll know for sure when we see it in the flesh.  I'm starting to worry about what the coupe replacement will be like...

I heard a rumor that the new three is make or break as it constitues a massive chunk of revenue for BMW. Anyone know exactly what state the 5/6/7 sales figures are at the mo?

Here's another pic where it's not as bad lookin..

Posted By: Toxic
Date Posted: 19-August-2004 at 12:27

I don't think it's that bad apart from the rear....looks a bit like a cross between the previous mondeo & a mitsubishi.

I think the 1-series will take a lot of the 3-series customers purely on the basis that its a hatchback...

Not all is lost though....here's the E90 M3, gotta be the best looking BM for decades..

I like the black 3series, (E?), pics. I LURV the Red M3.

I hate the fact my E46 will now drop a few pounds. I like the fact that I may be able to get my hands on an E46 M3 cheaper.

Swings and roundabouts.

Earlier pics of the new M3 were labelled the M4 but I think they scrapped that idea now and are leaving it the m3.Here's the older pics which I love...

Richie,

I think the brand name of the M3 is too popular to drop.

They can call it the M50 if they look like that..

... I have to say that I've no real knock-out love of my coupes looks... they're nice and inoffensive but to be honest I preferred my E34. It does have 2.8 litres and a limmo tho, and that's what I love.

So roll on Bangled Beemers, the more thought-provoking the better. As long as they are a hoot to drive, and keep evolvng, through technology, to reduce weight and efficiency/power (Mag engine blocks, alu chassis legs, valvetronic etc etc) then I'll keep buying them.

Imagine a RS4, SAAB 9³ Aero, Alfa 156 GTA et al with a decent RWD chassis ... now that'd be interesting. the only option to a 3 is an IS200 @ the mo - (I still consider the C Class as a bit too grown up). When Alfa pull their finger out and get a RWD platform it'd be interesting. Or imagine what Ford could do with 350bhp going to the rear of a Mondeo sized car? Or if Honda made a Type R Accord steering from the rear? Mazdas RX-8 is a perfect example of showing the way forward (although I have doubts over the engines delivery and reliability) - I hope more join in. Three Series are held in the regard they are because there are not that many options.

Anyway, got into a bit of a rant there, didn't I?

That M3/4 whatever it is is sweet but don't like the first pics. Not a huge fan of bangles BM's apart from the Z4 (which i likes). but agree with TJ about progress and thought provoking if sometimes offensive styling. Bangle designed my motor and it was way out of wack for fiat at the time

I wonder if they are going to upgrade the brakes on the E46 M3 cuz the last ones were shocking bad when you were braking at high speed (alot of noise but not alot of stopping)

As regards the new red M3........well i'm off to take out a mortgage.

I respect what your saying about the new style of BM's T.J., the majority will always buy the cars as long as they retain their drivability, rwd etc. but i think the styling of the new 3 is not as radical as the other new cars and is just a bit too like others in its class. I said it already but it has front bumper like new A6 and is not too far of a Saab in overall design. Not aggressive enough for me. Hope its better with two doors.

Tom i agree with you about the 1-series, it will take from the three and i think it will b a best seller.

looks like theres a bit of lexus in the front arches

Posted By: Robbie Bradford

All these new cars have too much of a lip on the arches, only a set of 19s is gonna fill them properly.......................ah i give up.

Indeed - was looking at a mkIV Golf today with 18 x 8.5" on it and they did justice to the arch flare and filled them right.. but then looked too high - sort that and you have no wheel travel.

I'm hoping that they are going to make the Coupes of the 1 & 3 (rumoured to be called 2 & 4 partially cos they can't have an M1) into agressive low-slung machines, and that the 1 / 2 series coupe will be a real successor to the E30 M3 in terms of size and philosphy.

they should have us as product planners!

Sorry to contradict and I might be wrong, but I read somewhere that although there was to be a 2 and 4 series, the idea was recently dropped....

They'll never replace the style of the machine, big flared arches and all that is a thing of the past unfortunatley. I think the new coupes might steer away from the saloon version and stand alone by design, a bit like CLK, SL and CL by Merc.

I hope they are low slung and agressive T.J.

As for wheels, anything over "18 is just stoopid IMO, you want big wheels then get a tractor
