Hi everybody

I've just bought my first Beamer she is an 98 S 523i SE.

I know my way around cars but this one is going to get extra care.  I wish to change one of the rear tyres and want to use my trolley jack.

Where can I jack her up at the rear (and Front) with a trolley jack?  I don't like using a wooden block with a slot in it under the sill sitting on top of the jack.

Last car was a Vx Senator and the rear was jacked up by placing a trolley jack under the rear axle cross member chassis mountings.  Front was a large chassis member = piece of cake.

I haven't been able to look under her yet as I live in Scotland and currently if its not raining its raining heavily, I don't want to lie in a puddle - no gargae only a shed for my car bits!  I am unfamiliar with the BMW rear chassis structure (and front), so any help would be greatly received.

Andrew

Hello and welcome from a fellow Scot.

i had a similar problem when i came to change my wheels.

the only advice i can offer is to look around the underside of the car for something solid that wont move when you jack it up.

look in the area near the wheel on the underside of the car.there are a couple of solid bolted parts possibly relating to the suspension or the arms that attach to the hub that will allow you to jack it up safely without damaging anything.steer clear of the chassis altogether, as you dont want to go through it, like someone has done to my golf.

my terminology is really poor i know, but my minds a bit blank on what the correct name for these parts are (on 12 hour nightshifts for the past few weeks offshore).

hope that helps mate, if not someone will be on soon with a proper answer for you.

im from Aberdeen, where about are you from?
