Fetched my "new" executive plaything (1981 X-reg 635 CSi) from Darlington today, and have an initial report:

First and foremost, Recaro clearly didn't have lard-asses like me in mind when they built those seats. Atkins time or what?

Right, on a more constructive note:

1. The mat was loose and my attempts to straighten it led to an awkward issue with the accellerator! Are the mats fixable, if so is this a big job?

2. The 635 badge fell off between collecting the car and getting home... ... is this a known part number and is it cheap and easy to get?

3. Once the car was warm, it was very rough and seemed to misfire at low revs and idle very rough. It didn't cut out though.

4. The rev counter seems a bit...dysfunctional. I revved her flat out and got no higher than 3250 before what felt like a rev limiter kicked in. Power delivery seemed pretty good though.

5. All the gauges seemed a bit odd, the temperature stayed in the bottom quarter the whole way and the fuel gauge only read 3/4 when I brimmed the car.

Is it just me, or is this car seriously "respect-inducing" at the back?

Can't say I had any such problems with mine..the engine runs brilliantly and all the nice new (2yr old - replaced before stored) badges are all still firmly attached...

My rev counter has a mind of its own, as does the speedometer so its a case of measuring the distance tween lamp posts/telegraph poles in respect to speed alot of the time.

The mats in mine are in the boot mainly due to the welding that was carried out...the welding that wasn't done is at the rear end.

And the seats..all four of them..are sumptuous leather armchairs that even the largest of drivers could easily fit into....

Temp gauge should get to halfway.

Should rev freely to the cut out at 6250rpm.

If the mats are BMW they have clips to hold them down.

If it's got TRX tyres they'll be calling you "Mr. Sideways".

There's a good mechanic (ex BMW Master Technician) in South Shields who could sort it out.  Jon Morgan 0191 4566623

Teeside Autotech 01642 617626 are recommend too.

All four of them? Either you don't know what large is, or you have a 635 CSiL....

Yes, but what version was your original? Chrome only directly applied to panel? Or chrome characters on black plastic backing plate?
