Can anyone tell me what the make of original tyres would have beed fitted to my E39 98 S 523i SE?  Size is 225/60 R15

I just bought her with 3 Conti Eco Contacts and some dodgy unheard of make for the other rear tyre.  Garage MOT'd it and had to put a new tyre on her but obviously put the cheapest nastiest tyre on her that would fit.

I don't skimp on tyres and am prepared to spend cash on decent tyres such as Michilens or Conti's.

Andrew

I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the Conti's were OEM.  I'm just about to replace all mine (16" rims), the rears have about 22k on them and the fronts were on it before I bought it so there is at least 33k on those (rotated them from rear to front when the last set went on the rear).

I started a thread about a fortnight ago on the topic on this forum that has some great feedback from the rest of the members.  Most of the comments are geared towards the larger rims, but it might help.

Andrew,

go to www.mytyres.co.uk

You'll find a great selection of tyres at very good prices, the Continental Contact Sport amoung them; however, I suggest you read all the ratings for each tyre. It is a german run site, and for most tyres they quote the results of tyre tests done by various german organisations.   I have gone throught the whole process, and I have gone for Vredestein Sportrac II   in size 235/45 17".   For me, they offer best wet grip with good comfort and noise at a good price.   Mytyres   send the tyres to you or a tyre change garage of your choice (they can tell you where the nearest garage is that they deal with).     Highly recommended.
