The BMW ones are different for the left and right - they have different part numbers and one has R on it and the other has L! Slightly different fitting, I think. |

So this guy told you it had only one wiper? The E39 doesn't have wipers of equal length either. Sizes are 22 and 26 I think. This is why places don't stock them as they only fit the E39 being of two different sizes. Andrew PS I hope you corrected the guy and referred him to your E39 parked out front! |

A local car accessories shop referred to a Champion catalogue when I enquired about blades and insisted that the e39 BMW only has one windscreen wiper, not 2 of equal length, just one. Obviously, the second one on my car is from the extensive, and expensive, options list!

The only thing wrong with that is the E39 Bosch blade set from Halfrauds is twice the price that it is from ECP! Good blades right enough. Andrew |

My Bosch ones don't squeal at all and never have. Might be to do with whatever it is you use to wash your windscreen with. My Halfrauds now do an E39 Bosch set, they didn't when I started this thread. I now could do with new wiper blades as these ones are beginning to fade at nearly a year old now. Andrew |

Yes, I echo that. The E39 wipers were the easiest ones that I have ever fitted on a car and mainly due to the lovely sliding clip. My old car, 528i sport, had a broken clip which I was too lazy at first to change. Then one day the wiper blade fell on to the window because the clip was in the unlocked position. I soon found out when I started to wipe the screen clean in the morning on my way to Heathrow Airport. It left some noticable scratches and I then felt compelled to change the broken clip and at a grand cost of 30p. So please do ensure that your clips are locked and not broken causing easy sliding to the dangerous position. Happy driving all!!! Edited by zayd55 |

I forgot to mention it, but even with my inabilities, the whole lot (wipers & filters) took a total of 2 minutes to replace!

I've just had my blades replaced by local dealer. I tried a few different types but ended up going back to the BM ones as they are definately quieter and also last longer and do a better job. Still £40 fitted was a little steep I felt!

I bought some blades from Halfords - Bosch ones, for my E46 323 that I used to own.
They were crap, plus the spoiler on the drivers side wasn't right, incorrect shape/size which prooved a problem at speed in the rain! I bought a drivers side blade from the dealer and kept the passenger side one from Halfords. Seemed to work fine. Main dealer stuff may be expensive, but it's correct! |

I got a pair of wiper blades and a pair of micre filters for my e39 at the dealers last week - €70 the lot incl VAT. Felt that that was a good price. |

Thanks for that - Glad to save the pig some work I can't stand juddering or squealing wiper blades. I was driven by a work colleague in his Citroen for 2 hrs in the rain with juddering and squeaking blades. I wanted to kill someone by the time I got back to the office It was such a relief to get back into my car and all you could hear was the gentle swoosh on my drive home |

We have three E39's in my family and have discovered that the replacement Bosch blades do not provide a good enough fit even though they are of excellent quality. After using them for just a month they squeal like a pig. The BMW original ones are made by Valeo and work the best without the pig coming in for some action! http://www.valeo.com/automotive-supplier/Jahia/pid/14 Edited by zayd55 |

Coming in late to this thread - I need a new set of wiper blades for my 2001 E39. Who makes the BMW ones as I've been most impressed with the factory fitted ones - namely they are very quiet and work extremely well and last a long while (mine are the original pair) and I'm a bit obsessive over clean glass |

I got a set a set from Halfords, Bosch item number 26/22B, IIRC about £14. One blade at 650m (passenger)and 2 x 550 blades (driver). I think the extra blade was an added bonus as the packaging just reffered to it being a double pack. Dead easy to fit. Aout 30 seconds each. |

They soooo were knackered though! Got a set of Bosch blades from Euro Parts in Glasgow for £13.10 inc VAT which must be about the best price I have seen on this forum without having to wait for a postman! GSF wanted £14.90+VAT but didn't have them. Tried to sell me a pair for the E34 though which were £21 something inc VAT What a difference I can now see where I'm going...does help so much....
