not rain sensor type. sitting in my car while it was heating up (waiting on my wife)...i put on the wiper's to first speed an they wiped once.....then a few second's later they wiped again? so me thinking i only put it to intermiten wipe i push the lever up one and notice "hey...that should be the fastest setting?".....cut a long story short who else fell for the.." no i wont wipe your window proper till you start moving!" god dammit and i was thinking i'm needing either a motor or a new switch...
ive had my car since September and i'm still finding little neat touche's lovin it Edited by 523 iAN |

That was one of my earliest experiences in a bm... Stopped at traffic lights and thought "Hmm, somethings not right, the wipers have stopped!" Lights go to green and I'm a happy bunny but I made a mental note to read the owners manual (twice!). |

Coincidence or what!
I was about to post the same thing, excellent stuff and I read the manual explaining all... ...now I dont know about the adjustment yet...is there more reading or can you tell us here!! I have only had my 318iS for about 6 weeks and I am finding different little quirks all the time. |

well my E34 has this I'm not sure about others but, its been a feature on BMW's for many years.
Turn intermittant on and off quickly then wait up to 20 seconds before turning on again what ever time has lapsed between the 2 will be the gap between wipes from 2 to 20 seconds |

not sure if the E39 work's the same as an E34 as the E39 has an adjuster fitted to the stalk for manual adjustment. Edited by 523 iAN |

Hmmm, mine dont do this ... In fact they dont do a lot, there's a rain sensor on the window wich does not seem to work, there are no varying speeds on the intermitent option, twirling the knob does jack and and to top it off of I have the wipers on slow, they stay on slow even if I have stopped ? All problems linked perhaps? Any ideas? Oh, try flashing your main beam when your lights and ignition are off and then you will get an illuminted walk to your front door (unless you park in a garage) |

i found the "save light's" on the first night......thought i was going to dis-connect the battery!.......Doh!! one of the thing's my car (factory extra wise) hasn't got fitted are rain sensor's, my brother had a lot of bother with them in the past and when i found mine never had it i thought "one less worry then!" my mate from work has them on his E39 528 Shnitzer and like's the feature.... but he's a wee bit lazy!

I posted this in Article: Has the 3-Series met its match?
It just shows how BMWs gadgetry can be sometimes easier to use!

Having owned BMs for 15 years I thought I knew most of their idiosyncracies, but I'd forgotten about the variable intermittent wiper function. I spent most of my journey to the office this morning playing with it! (Ooh err!). Thanks for pointing it out Bill-. Edited by Chas C |

Personally, I love the dimming rear and door mirrors (don't realise how great they are till you drive another car at night, and the way the n/s mirror dips when I engage reverse to see the position of the n/s rear wheel against the curve. Also, and it's a silly thing, but the way the temp guage rises while warming, up to a point absolutely perfectly vertical/central, and never, ever waivers from that spot. Teutonic precision, can't beat it!!! I could go on, but I think i'm getting into anorak territory! Ali |

When it works!! The temp guage on my E36 is more "5 to" than 12 o'clock which always bugs me! |

I don't think i've got an auto-tilting passenger side door mirror? anything special that has to be done? I've got the photocromatic rear view mirror, but never realised the door mirrors were the same, never noticed any little dots on them? |
