...anyone broken a car before. What was your experience? More hassle than expected or relatively straightforward to dismantle then sell?

Well since the 4000+ views of my ad have generated exactly 0 enquiries then breaking the GT is beginning to look like an option - initial sums suggest well north of £6k is doable - which is about triple the trade-in price anyone is likely to offer...

Oh dear, GT is way too good to break Duncan.
![]() It may figure out to be over 6K in parts but actually getting all of those parts sold is the tricky bit. Ok all of your rare parts and nice morcels will sell no prob, but you'll be left with all the left overs. Do you really want to ad another scrapped shell to the GT Register?? It'd be a sad day if you broke GT. ![]() |

Certainly not top of my list of fun things to do Paul but GT is only worth what someone will pay. If no-one's even picked up the phone to even haggle then I'm left with crappy options

Been on the market for getting on for 8 weeks fluffy. All of em on PH. PH is in fact the 2nd largest referrer to the Register this month which I suspect relates to one of your posts. Loads of interest - no sponduliks it would appear.

Dunc,
I have to agree with the guys, it's not a wise move to break. It seems a great idea on paper but in reality you will be left with half a car that could take you a lifetime to sell the parts from. My mate used to do this as a business and unless you've got proper facilities to strip the car and store the parts then rule this out. It really is far too nice a car to break and I'm sure someone will be along soon with 6+K that you're looking for ![]() |

I will. I cannot believe you would contemplate breaking it. However if you do, i want first dibs on the front bumper / splitter and possibly a hell of a lot of other bits including the engine and running gear!

Dude man, no don't do it. Apart from the technicalities
of having to get rid of the fluids and stuff, there's the storage issues someone living in a flat might have. I know you could use your Dad's, or Rory's place but I've just trying to put you off really. I've posted in a couple of places I use over in NI for you. I know you'd posted on bmw-driver.net, I use a couple of others in the North too. wanted-swap/147464-fs-friends-m3-gt.html#post2040643">RMS Post NI BMW Forum There is another Forum I 'browse but don't post' but it's full of scummers that attract folk from Falkirk! ![]() I just know even before I hit 'Post Reply' that Google Chrome is going to shaft my links above... |

Duncan, There all some way away (so not an easy solution) but i think it would be worth a chat with the respected specialists like Old Colonel Cars, WLN and Munich Legends to see if any of them would facilitate a commision sale. Alternatively take it to Gaydon with a for sale sign on?

Like your thinking Pete... £6k is the pessimistic estimate and leaves a LOT of (standard E36) parts unaccounted for. |

Also Classic Heroes. This is now own and run by Barney Hasle who was the previous owner of ML.
As said above mate, the car is too good to frag, although I fell your pain with regards to no callers. The logistics would be more hassle than I could be bothered with. I would persist with the sale until, as big Stuff suggests, Gaydon and see whay happens then, if your financial situation allows. Probably telling my granny how to suck eggs here, but have you advertised it on bmwland, gumtree, ebay, bmwcarshowroom.com, e36coupe etc. If only I had the dough mate. I'll try and talk my brother into it ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It would be a shame to break it. Out of the other 31 cars on the road, what have they sold for? Is 8k a fair price for it? |

In my opinion, it's undervalued at £8k - sadly that's just my opinion. Less well kept cars have gone for £6500-£7500 so £8000 doesn't feel in any way outrageous. As I said, my pessimistic sums suggest £6k+ broken so how much more is a car worth whole than in bits? 2 other GT owners have been in touch letting me know they have agreed insurance valuations north of £11k. Gary has suggested that the UK is obsessed with age/mileage rather than condition; I reckon that's a factor. |
