Last Green light disappeared on the way to Moffat. So far we have :
Parks Glasgow £602.56 (I checked they had heard Insp I not II and that we were talking about an E36 and not anything more modern...) Newmarket Engineering (Stirling) £364.25 (Seems realistic and they come highly recommended) BMW Car Specialists Ibrox £188.00 (Sounds awffy cheap?) |

BMW Car Specialists Ibrox £188.00
Does sound cheap, but its only a oil change and filter and a going over,so maybe they price it more like an interim service Maybe worth seeing if there is anyway of seeing there Inspection sheet first to compare with dealer checks
And what oil do they use?

Interesting p.o.v. Pete - I asked a BMW specialist for an Insp I quote so I can only go on the assumption that I would get the full Insp I checklist. He did state that for M cars they had to use the dearer Oil so the quote was higher than their advertised 'standard rate'.
The Stirling mob actively got out the service schedule and checked the items expected of them for an Insp I before quoting. |

Dunc, Guy in Ibrox only uses gen BM parts and oils. I checked this when he did my 330 (i paid £141 which sounded too cheap also - he did'nt charge a 6 cly premium and used Shell Helix fully synth oil). Only thing he did'nt do in the price was change microfilter. As i reported previously i was more than pleased with the work, service and explainations. Like you i went there over Davie just for convenience as i had some business in the city. |

It's worth pointing out that the main difference between an oil service, insp I and insp II is just time. Indeed, even half the cost of an oil service is time since the oil and filters should come in around £50. I don't recall any additional bits being changed as part of the inspection criteria. I'd guess what we are seeing above is the difference between £100+/hr for the dealer, £50/hr at Stirling and a good bit less at Ibrox for a 4 hour inspection. Incidentally Dunk, do all quotes include VAT? |

Dont forget a BMW Insp 2 also has Spark plugs
so that would be slighly more than just extra labour charge compared to Insp 1 |

That seems a great price! Iv been quoted £160 for just an oil service on mine. Would be interesting to see how much an Inspection II is, from other forums Iv heard people paying anything from £650 to £1200 (!!). Out of interest Dunc, many miles has the GT done? |

Dunc,
"awffy cheap" as my old mammy used to say if something sounds too good to be true then it normally is why don't you speak to Davy and see if he'll do it on a sat morn |
