80k miles in my old E39 and never had the airbag light on. Till I fiddled with the seats.
E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg.....

My E39 airbag light came on twice, first time after the Mers got in to move the car and pulled the seat forward. Second time was when I put a notebook down between the seat and the transmission tunnel and bumped the seat belt pre-tensioner.

Atleast that is one improvement (of very few) in the E60 over the E39, not so sensitive airbag warning systems!

The honest answer is, I didn't, I traded it against my first E60!

I told the salesman about it and how I think it happened but he knew exactly what had happened and he knew that he could sort it with a quick diagnostic reset.  Didn't affect the trade in price

The first time it happened the local garage reset it (via diagnostic) for me at MOT time.  they charged me an hours labour IIRC for it at the time.  Standard price for a diagnostic check/reset.

Replaced the sensor. An Indy connected a diagnostics tool to it and it
can't connect to the airbag ecu. Anyone have any ideas?

The diagnostics tool is the autoboss v30 unit.
