Your absolutely right tho Dobbin, I do it purely out of choice, and then I have the brass neck to go and moan about about it ....  however a certain gent from the North East pointed me in the direction of this thread and asked for a bit of input, so I obliged.

And to Mel, Nope I wasnt out on the shandy my dear, was instead serving the nelson supping riff-raff of the North West ... and again tonight, a private party for a local sainsburys supermarket ... they all brought their own Vodka tho, .. I mean as if you wouldnt tho, fair play to em, #### the regime and their overpriced drinks .... glass of full-fat coke anyone? .... LOL

 

..just to carry on from another thread, IIRC Dennis Thatcher allegedly stopped the production of passenger carrying coached from York Carriage Works in favour of Derby, tho only roling stock produced in York now is goods stock (Thrall Europa).

Something to do with being the head of a quango with interests in Derby..

York Carriage Works is now mostly a housing estate, built on top of very large asbestos pits (which no one realy knows the whereabouts of, so they used fifteen foot of topsoil just to be sure.

..in some areas, the asbestos was coming through the surface of the carpark. No-one remembered where the pits were, as in the 60's it wasn't perceived as being dangerous. My dad has known many people that have died from pneumoconsyliosis (I kno' I can't spell). he said one old bloke used to pack his pipe with the stuff to make it burn longer, others used to roll up in it and fall asleep, many used to throw it at each other like snowballs. Most that are stil alive are <cough> 'pooing' themselves...
