M5 line-up

e28 for me. A bit like the e30 M3, things might have gotten a bit more sophisticated with the later models, but the earlier models actually demanded a bit more from the driver, and rewarded them for it.

That's the sort of reason why I got the e30, to complement the e39.

The exhaust pipes looks a bit small for such a powerful car I hope they put a decent exhaust system on the European spec cars.

I've owned an E28 and an E34 and out of the two the E28 was the better by a long way. The E34 is just too soft for me.

It sounds much nicer when it starts up and drives like a storm and the engine is refined even better than the others, but sorry for forgetting about you Mr. M5 Bannon

BMW�s new 5-series range has run into trouble in the crucial Euro NCAP crash tests. According to an inside source, the initial tests would have led to the car being given a low three-star rating. The source claimed that the car�s problem was �structural� rather than a series of minor problems.
BMW denied this but admitted that the 5-series has been crash-tested. However, BMW has �agreed� with Euro NCAP that the tests were hampered by �inconsistencies�. The impact tests are likely to be re-run in the near future.
�We genuinely hope for, and expect, a five-star rating,� a BMW spokesman told Autocar.

I knew there was almost 200kg in weight savings over the outgoing E39 model (which stands at roughly 1.7 tonnes), but didn't think they'd skimp on structural rigidity or safety.. another reason why the V8 M5 is superior and will become somewhat of an icon (ala 993 porsche)..
