Was hunting on autotrader and came across this, could be a real labour of love if it took someone's fancy.

http://search.autotrader.ie/cgi-bin/advert_detail.php?page_n um=3&record_id=3319144&class=cars&pos=26&loc ale=atie.cars.1&distance=&SearchID=ad12fe244b0845cbf 426dc9e0ecc7d42

PS. I've nothing to do with the seller at all, am not connected in any way

hmmm E30 baur - tempting!
Advert doesn't say much about mileage, etc. What does 'needs tidyied' mean?

I was reading on boards.ie about a guy who was told by the revenue that VRT had to be paid on an off-road bike - seemingly they were quite insistent!

It depends on the cc of the car:-
< 1.4L then VRT is 22.5% of OMSP (Open Market Selling Price)
1.4 - 1.9 = 25%
>1.9 = 30%

Naturally our revenue commissioners decide what the OMSP is!
This is also separate from our punitive annual road tax.

Assume a new car has a retail price of 10k, then add the appropriate VRT rate and then add 21% VAT on all of that. This is why many older cars here were of standard spec - adding options increased the retail price therefore incurring more VRT & VAT.
There is also the claim from some quarters that safety is being comprimised because the manufacturers are omitting some of the pieces here that are standard elsewhere (IIRC the new golf here has less airbags) for this very reason.
However our Govt. make so much money from it that it is not likely to go for a while.

i argued the point of price with the V.R.T. office in santry and asked how they came up with that price.there was no disputing with them .

they said "you pay the v.r.t within a week or get the car out of the country".i was held to ransom.Apparently they had no record of a 323i tc baur ever being registered in this country so they had to go and research the price.(if anyone can tell me different im all ears).

inanyway, i didnt learn me lesson i brought a 1984 323i baur over one month later and went through the same process.

There is an appeals procedure if you think the figure is wrong.

The are 2 lines of reasoning that I would consider using is:

1) if no direct comparison is available, value it similarly to the nearest model they have a value for, e.g. a 323i 2d saloon.

2) if none had been registered here then value must be linked to or similar to the UK price in a worst case scenario, since that is the only realistic source.  Would a similar condition Baur cost stg£2800 in the UK (effectively thats the grossed up value they have put on the car).

Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93.

Prev:
e46 328i SE Touring, 330Ci, 318Ci.
e39 523i SE.
e36 325i Coupe *2, 323i SE, 316iSE.
e30 325iSE 2dr, 320i Conv, 320i 2dr, 316i.

How does the revenue commissioner get away with this? This must be illegal
