my problem is this....

my dad loves these cars and has ended up with a '85 728i which runs and is fine, and an '82 735i SE with LSD.  sadly he has to get rid of them both (something to do with hoarding old cars and no space!!).

anyways to cut a long story short the 735 ECU developed a fault a couple of yrs ago and it was left in a local barn whilst we "considered!!" the problem, alas vandals got hold of it and it no longer has front or back screens  , which is a shame as it was a superb car, as i'm sure you lot have heard a million times....

i am wondering if anyone could advise me what the best way to approach maybe selling both together as a running car with MOT (728) and a spares car (735), or perhaps sell the 735iSE for parts??? would there be any interest from this site????

any help much appreciated

Ed

Hi Ed,

there will be much interest in both the cars!

Is your Dad willing to sell parts from the 735i, or only the entire car?

Can you post some pics of the cars?

or give us details of the colour of the cars, and the type of trim they have, leather or cloth, colour of seats, condition etc.

Where are the cars located?

Please stay in touch, and give us any more info you can.

regards,

Philip

thanks for the replies and warm welcome

there has been some interest already in the cars, and having spoken to my old man i think the decision is to sell  the 728i on ebay as suggested. i'm really surprised how good these cars are, to be honest i've never really paid much attention (as they are my dads) but having driven it today around where it is being stored its a really nice car in good condition, and started first time!(its been stored either at our house on and off and a local barn). i have taken photos and these will be with the auction, and judging by the way everything works and how it drives i think it should get an MOT before then.

the 735i is available to take away as a whole rolling spares car / or alternatively if there is any interest out there for parts, then PM /email me

a warning to anyone looking for parts... get in quick as unfortunately the 735 has outstayed its welcome in our driveway!

really glad i found this site as its been so useful to see what these cars are about, and also top meet people who could benefit from our poorly one!

bmw1066 - the 735 has velour interior, sorry!

and to Philip and others who need more details, i will try to post some photos tonight.

the breaker (735i) is aqua blue metallic (i think thats what it said under the bonnet), and has covered 86,348 genuine miles. it has LSD (i'm told by dad), and i see its got the ?rare? 3  speed auto box, and a sweet engine (again told this but when i had a peek at the oil today it is golden even though its been sat around for a good couple of years!). its missing basically the drivers window and front and back screens due to the vandals, but everything else is there, including some gadgety type 80's Blaupunkt stereo thing!! oh and today i noticed theengine struts were in not so great shape on the 728i so sorry i have already taken them off the 735i and transferred.

another thing that may be of use is that it was owned by a wealthy fella locally who spent the earth on it and i'm again told specced it up well, so there may be some stuff that I don't know about that could be worth having.

hope this helps, as i say i will attempt to get some photos up tonight.

thanks
Ed

Excellent Ed!

How much money are you wanting for various bits?:

I am after the actuator for the cruise control. its in the engine bay behind the battery and quite low down. its a black plastic unit with a cable coming out of it which goes to the throttle body. it also has an electric cable coming out of it which runs to the bulkhead. please cut the loom by the bulkhead and carefully remove the actuator.

Mark requires the ECU for the on board computer. this is located in the left hand recess behind the left hand speaker plastic trim located in the footwell quite low down. remove the speaker trim and you will be able to find/remove the silver metal ECU.

AG requires the cruise control stalk or maybe all three column stalks.

Phil, didn't patrick have a cruise actuator, or was that to be used on his e23?

AG, Haven't tested cc on my 7 yet. Replaced the ecu in the footwell using the one you so skillfully removed from my donor 728.

You still after the stalk?

Ed,

Are you thinking of taking bits off the car for selling here or on ebay?

engine ancillaries and electrics are always in demand, as they often fit E28/E24 as well as E23. Eg:

PAS pump

Alt.

A/C Compressor

Relays around the fusebox & engine bay generally

lamps & lenses

boot & bonnet & doors if not rusted

Philip, AG, Mark and others.

I'm not going to put the bits on ebay as I really don't have the time to take everything off and go that route.

the car can be bought as a rolling donor car if there is interest (and this would no doubt be the easiest for me) - make an offer!!!

or (this option seems more likely) I can get bits off, so long as i know you are keen!!! I only have this week to have a holiday and sort cars out so PM me the specific details of what you want and what you are prepared to offer for the bits you want. i will trust your judgements to offer a fair price on the bits

ideally come and get the bits this week / weekend (pref saturday)...... or if they aren;t too big i can hold them for slightly longer but no guarantees on that.

if you guys want to make a road trip of it and come by saturday or something then let me know....
