I did try, till he made an unwarranted false personal attack, all I did was put the truth. Fair do's the moddys stopped it. We were all having a nice talk until andyboy started. Since when has "nanana" been grown up! I only tried to take him up on his offer to save a rare car, not because I wanted it, I don't!

That does explain a lot, I'm on the Practical Classics readers panel, however, they preach tolerance for all involved with old cars, anything anyone loves enough to run is their classic!

Whoa..thats enough...this thread will get locked soon if you keep going Andy, just give it a rest and try and be reasonable. It won't kill you.

This thread was a valid one about a car thats known better days, there is no need for it to turn into an all out brawling session spurred on by jibes from you Andy.

Calm down.

Wher do you get your information? 105 for car,
37 for radiator, 5 for complete spare engine, 0
labour costs and 20 of leaded fuel as a treat for it to
drive it back with, thats way under 400 on my
calculator!

More than 66 though!

Na na na na na!

Well, whatever floats your boat. But I'd rather be out
driving an E28, not lying under it. These cars are now
old enough to require weekend fettling (cambelts,
discs, etc) so guys, give yourself a head start and
BUY A NICE ONE!

I'd really love an Alpina B9 or B10 E28. Sorry, but
BMW's don't get much better than this. Peace,
Brothers.

Just try and be a little more diplomatic Andy. OK you might have done these cars til you are blue in the face but give those who love to tinker with an old car some credit. You might think it a waste of time, thats your perogative but you shouldn't behave as if they are stupid or dumb just cos they like to buy cars that you probably wouldn't touch with a 20ft bargepole.

You have your ideas and they have theirs, live and let live and you might just get on better on the site and not get warnings and be banned so much. Just engage brain before fingers and look at things from their point of view and offer advice on how to maybe do things better, but you shouldn't shoot them down for making a choice that you wouldn't.

With less respect, what do you mean "sometimes" he lacks both. I am pretty physically limited to how much I can do now, but buying, restoring, just working on old cars gives me pleasure.

I don't insult the people who buy a new car and have it dealer serviced, I have always preffered a more "hands on" approach, and as my father was a good, trained motor fitter and he taught me.

If you will take a cheque dated for the first of june I'll have the shadowline 525E for 66, pm me your address and it'll be in the post tomorrow!

What I don't lack though is common sense.
Oh sure, I HAVE bough crappers and blown money
on trying to fix them. Christ, where do I start? How
about an early E28 520i auto that was known as 'The
One Speed Wonder'. I bought it for 200 about seven
years ago and thought the brakes were stuk on. In
fact, when you put it into drive, it went straight into top
gear. Hills were a problem. Found another gearbox
but on the way back from the breakers the head
gasket went.

At that point I stripped anything useful worth having
off it and got shot of it. So yes, I've been there too. But
the difference is I now know what cars are a
complete waste of time and which ones aren't. I've
been exceptionally lucky to buy an E39 for 1000 - I
won't be getting any more of those that cheap for a
while. But stuff IS out there if you set your sights high
enough.
