Topic: So youre Bored?? Posted: 24-May-2005 at 15:33 |
If you find your brain is slowly turning into a vegetable @ work, Try this...
The Situation...
You are out at sea sight-seeing in a glass bottomed boat. The boat is
hit by a Shark looking for it's next meal. In it's attempt to scuttle
the boat, it rips off the outboard motor and the glass panel springs a
leak, right in the middle, and a pretty powerful leak at that. This
shark then just circles the boat.
The Premise...
You have to hand a square piece of marine Ply big enough to cover the
leak, a 3 Gallon Water bottle (Empty) and a 5 Gallon Water Bottle (also
empty). You need to stop the leak long enough to allow the rescue
service to arrive, Scare off the shark and tow you back to shore. The
boat captain, tries to radio the coast guard and asks you to stop the
leak, he tells you that in his years of sailing the boat, he knows that
the weight of 4 Gallons of water on top of the marine Ply is enough to
slow the leak without breaking the glass.
The Challenge...
Try to make 4 Gallons, exactly, in one of the containers in order to slow the leak.

I got it! [took a bit of thought!]
Fill the 5gallon container and then pour as much as you can from this
into the 3gallon can. There are now 2gals left in the 5 gal container.
Throw out the 3 gallons you poured into the 3gal container and pour the 2 in from the 5gal can.
You now have an empty 5 gal can and a 3 gal can with 2 gals in it.
If you fill the 5 gal can and then pour enough from this to fill up the
3 gal can you will be left with 4 gals as there is only enough room for
1 gal in it!

That was an old one, just needed a bit of lateral thinking.
how about this one..
Anthony and Cleopatra are lying dead on the floor of a villa in Egypt. Nearby is a broken bowl. There is no mark on either of their bodies and they were not poisoned. How did they die?

Anthony and Cleopatra were goldfish whose bowl was knocked over by a clumsy dog - we've got one like that at home so it was easy!!
And while you're at it............
A man is pushing his car. He stops when he reaches a hotel at which point he knows he is bankrupt. Why?

No idea?
How about:
A man lives in a tower block on the 10th floor. In the morning he gets in the lift and travels all the way down to go to work. When he returns in the evening he gets into the lift and if he is alone he gets off at the fifth floor and walks up the stairs to the tenth floor. However if there is someone in the lift with him he travels to the tenth floor. Why?
Also:
A car is driving along the motorway at a constant speed when one of the wheels falls off. Assuming there is no rolling resistance from the road why does the wheel over take the car?
