I missed Top Gear last night! Went to The Transporter 2, should've stayed in to watch Top Gear!! Just wondering if anyone knows if it'll be repeated during the week?
If not, does anyone around my neck of the woods have it recorded?

Thanks!

Transporter II - I was amazed they got funding for a sequel! The 1st one was hilarious.. the bit where he kicks off the pedals and fights the boys on the oil...

I'm a deffo for round II!

try'n to get those 3 cars out of the carpark, you'd feel a real prat sitting there with everyone watching holding up the traffic. The Ford GT was the one for me.

Was the frogeye sprite hillclimb car vs the modded 306 on last night?

I'm almost ashamed to say it, but Transporter II was actually fairly entertaining. There were one or two scenes that were OTT. (i.e. like the jump on the bridge in Gone in 60 Seconds), but on the whole, it was a good laugh - not a total waste of €8.50. Anyone who has seen the first movie will pick up on loads of little funny bits in the second one!

'Twas also good to see a sequel of a (non-arty) european movie that wasn't a complete joke (like Taxi 2 - the french one, or the American re-make of the original Taxi - with Queen whats-her-name).

As for the transporters new drive... the jury is still out, although it does sound great!

You didn't miss much, it was the usual drivel from Clarkson. An hour of my life I will never get back

Ok so it wasn't that bad, but he is a bit of a prat

Bit of an anorack one this guys, but see if you can spot it.

Clarkson is talking to the Minister for transport, and says that as the ( whatever car) can stop in half the distance the highway code says for a given speed, it should be allowed to go at twice the speed.

As you will all know ( I hope)  when you double the speed you quadruple the stopping distance, not double it

Don't worry if you didn't know, the minister didn't pick up on it either !

Best Wishes

Nigel

Talking of stopping distances did anyone read the article in Autoexpress a couple of weeks ago. Nice to see the 3 series doing so well, 3rd shortest stopping distance from 85mph behind a Porche fitted with £5800 worth of ceramic's and a new EVO. Pretty impressive I'd say.

What he actually said was that as a particular car could stop in 1/2 the stated distance at 70mph ....

so 70mph = 315ft/2 = 157.5ft.

If we assume the same formula applies at 140mph = 1120ft/2 = 560ft

which is only a 56% on the stated 70mph (and roughly equivilent to the HC calulation for 96mph)

(bl**dy pendants! )

Cats know your every thought.

But don't care.

the formula :

20 x 2 ,30 x 2.5, 40 x 3, 50 x 3.5, 60 x 4,70 x 4.5, 80 x 5, 90 x 5.5, 100 x 6, 110 x 6.5 and so on

I've no idea where they get the original figures from.

The interesting thing about this, is clarkson is talking about new cars, as soon as it gets a few miles under its belt, up go the stopping distances, more to do with dampers than brakes and tyres.

You do a lot of track stuff pittsy, have you any data on different damper to stopping distances ?

Best Wishes

Nigel

a simpler formula is: -

(speed*speed)/20 +speed = stopping distance in feet

"You do a lot of track stuff pittsy"

eh? what? not me - ask Uwe!

Cats know your every thought.

But don't care.

But he wasn't really there to defend government policy on speed cameras. Even so I thought he gave a good account for himself. Even Clarkson admitted that cameras are no good at generating revenue.

WRT stopping distances, wouldn't another variable there be tyres - cheap, crap tyres = no stopping distance?
