Aaron, Noone has said (on this forum at least) either of those. All I've read and said myself is that your car looked good and maybe a later car may have been a bit quicker. Whether anyone you know has been saying your car is slower than a phonetically spelt warm tiny hatchback is another thing... Seriously though, it does seem strange that there can be a very small difference between some serious cars and some distinctly unserious machines. |

My ha'penny worth is: 1. My E30 M3 with KW2 suspension felt all at sea (excuse pun) at Anglesey which is what started an ongoing suspension episode - but I hadn't driven there before with previous Bilstein Sprintline fitted. It is a tight circuit compared to anything else in UK (even Cadwell). 2. When I've been getting instruction at trackdays I always let the instructor drive the car - it gives them a good feel for its behaviour. I've never felt that they are about to punt the car off (although always faster than me) as they have so much more experience of both the circuit & how cars behave at/near the limit Would be up for a E30 M3 session at Anglesey though! |

I think the lap record there is around 43sec. Things like MG's, 325i's etc
seem to get round in 55 seconds when racing, but it is a very short twisty track with a very slow haipin, a second difference here might be somewhere closer to 10 seconds at somewhere like oulton where the M3 would most likey have shown a much faster comparable time to a ford Ka(k)... |

sure thats your perogative (spelling?) Just thought it would make for a good magazine article as well as providing people with information on what modifications make what difference when the car is put to the use it was intended. My main objective is to organise a trackday as means of a meet.

Oh no, I'm with you guys on this- I let Tiff drive it but in hindsight (and if I knew I would have come in for a reasonable amount of slating!) maybe I wouldn't have had. So, the track day will be down to us driving which means my car will be very slow... Damn, not sure how this track day is actually going to prove my car isn't a shed... |

As on many things, I'm with Uwe...
I'd love to come to a track day for M3s...and my car will be nearly standard with some safety/handling related modifications rather than power based ones. But let an unknown person drive my car? Probably not; unless it was fully insured against all incidents including mechanical ones! Keep me informed, though... |

appreciate that. But me for as a start I am not willing to let sombody drive my car round a ractrack I don't know. Whatever race history that person has. And I am not sure if I would let Tiff behind the wheel.... |

Aside from the misguided and pretty ill-informed comments in the studio I think it was a good piece on the M3 packed with superlatives and praise- more so than there was for the winner- and nothing to be down about at all. And yes, I'm up for this track day- I think we need to look towards March/April when it's a little milder as it does get pretty chilly on the coast. Or maybe I'm just being a girly. |

I think we are taking it all to hart. Time to cheer you all up. Top Gear episode November 2nd 2003 when the Hampster and the Librarian did a piece on the M1, M5 (e34) and M3 (e30). Basically defines what our cars are all about. you can get the bit torrent avi of this episode (along with others) at finalgear.com - downloads - topgear episodes - November 2nd 2003. In fact if any of you have problems downloading this then I already have a copy that I can post sometime (174MB in size though). Go on, cheer yourselves up. Edited by rattusM3 |

My vision from a day at Angelsey is to organise a trackday primarily for E30 M3's. At some point during the day maybe at the start, end or lunch hour get to together a selection of standard and modified cars from 195 to evo sport and run them back to back with the same driver timing the laps. If you look back through the thread I have proposed a driver who is more than capable of doing this. If Aaron could bring his car along that would be superb as we would have same car, same track, decent driver and have a good chance of beating Tiff's time. Hopefully Nick@TBMW is gonna help and report on the day and if we do beat Tiff's time we will send him a copy of the mag. We can also see if he had used a late 215 or evo sport model, where he would have been. Like I say this is my vision and Im more than happy to help organise this provided there is enough interest / willing volunteers putting cars forward

no disrespect, but don't you think it's a bit unfair against Tiff to compare laptimes of modified cars against his one from standard cars? Many of us know how much better an M3 can be with just a little bit of suspension tweaking to get rid of the "safety understeer". And I hope nobody will wake up from their dreams if Tiff's time is still faster....... |

just to keep you guys fully informed myself and Nick from TBMW are in cahoots to organise something for spring next year. including the 'grale crew is a good idea as the more people we can get the cheaper it will be for everyone. Maybe include fiesta ST owners club just to show them the way round
