only because your car is fan assisted but good to see what a difference a prepared version can make. Even if I didn't like the idea first time, but I think we need to get some proper M3's up to Anglesy. greetings to tho other fan owners |

Hehe, if it's any consolation we're all soul-searching over on the integrale forum too... If it's any help, a guy from our forum with a modded integrale evo has posted a 50sec laptime round Anglesey, which puts it ahead of the Porkers and TVRs and just behind the Lambo. And most of us agree that the E30 M3 is the only BMW we'd ever consider owning ;-)
Rob (Integrale Evo1)
PS We still beat you tho... :0)

undoubtedly this thread has been done to death but i watched the programme last night and one blindingly obvious point that must be made is that Mr Average driver would get nowhere - absolutely nowhere near Needell's times...
...nor would Mr Average in a sport Ka or whatever beat Mr Average M3 owner/driver... ...which says everything about the m3 that needs to be said the way Needell was driving is always going to equalise standard cars' lap times i bet the difference lies in the tyres... |

Nice one! And two fabulous engines at that. Another good parallel in fact: New Eurofighter would blow the Me109, FW190 & Spitfire out of the sky, but which would you rather tell your mates you flew? No contest in my book!

I think you'd lose - the 109e was made by Messerschmit !!! It did have a Mercedes engine though! Now the Focke Wolfe 190 did have a BMW engine . . . Tally ho chaps! |

I have this mag in question and was written by a Ford Cossie devotee, but every other tester on the test loved the Grale. And yes I own an Evo but Modified and no doubt all spotty 18 year olds in their mam's Fiesta's will now think they can blow me away ho hum. You do need to take this with a pinch off salt. There is only 0.74 of a second's difference between our cars and a NEW Cupra Leon Type R 225 which has more power as standard and more driver aids.

Wow, you are all very p*ssed. It is just tv and doesn't change how I feel about the E30 M3. I like the car and the way it communicates, I like the racing heritage, I like the looks and I can't say anything about the two cars in the test. Maybe they were like apples and peers, but it shouldn't change how you feel about your car. You know why you like them, don't you? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to see it yet, but for sure the M3 will look good on track with Tiff sliding the car around. That should be worth more than a 1,000 words. And for all those people who take the p* out of "us", they don't know what they are talking about.
Very well said. John (a very happy M3 owner and although I am looking for a car with more bhp I will always keep my M3) |

A properly sorted E30 M3 is still 'King of the Ring'

Lancia Delta Integrale. I always remember the Revs magazine group test many years ago... "Feels like a turbocharged Massey Ferguson and looks like a Lada Niva. Parts coming off in your hand - ahh but owners say "thats 'character'.... Never before have I looked forward to driving a car so much and been so utterly f*&%&*£ disappointed" Edited by stephenperry |

Guys dont worry too much about lap times, cos non of us will get near to Tiffs time in a 195bhp M3 with road rubber, the main thing to remember about these cars is to have fun and enjoy it, the track day at Anglesey sounds great maybe in summer its a great place to camp, we have raced there many times its ace, bring it on.Steve |

std 195 -vs- std 215
std evo2 - vs - std evo sport std 195 - vs - std evo sport would be amazed if there's much between any of them - that is, to the extent that 'proper' std cars could be found still with factory spec engine power... assumes same driver/track conditions/tyres etc etc a huge task for it to be meaningful and even then the results wouldn't suit everybody one test that would be very interesting would be an evo sport with a 3.25 diff - just to see if the bigger engine does make a difference in the real world ....or how about a Total BMW challenge to Mercedes Enthusiast magazine - comparing lap times with 109e 16v variants.....there is a bond between these cars and am always amazed the comics haven't made more of it...just waiting for Octane to get there first and ask Mark Hales to compare evo sport with 190e evo 2 Nick??? |
