840c

I've been missing my M5... I sold it some time back and have been swaning around in 525, ok but not setting the world alight. I have now decided that the long in the tooth 525 is going to be replaced bu either an M5, Alpina B10, or 840.

I'm in centreal London so the M5 won't like it much, the last one didn't and neither did my left leg. So, B10 / 840 both autos. Well, the B10 is nice but the 840 has a certain x appeal. I think I need this car for a while its just so .... well !

So, 840, a good long distance cruser. Great looks. Now for a few questions to you experts out there. What should I be looking for? My mind is a 98/99 with the steptronic auto box which I think was the last itteration of the mods. Does anybody know what they do to the gallon? And, are there any pit falls with this car, known problems?

Hi folks, went and did a bit of shopping today. Hopefully, I�ve got the car. 50k on the clock. Two sets of wheels both 18in rims, excellent from a type perspective and I couldn�t believe the price. It gives me a few k to get it up to A1 condition. Will keep you chaps informed over the next few months. Will post a pic at some point.

Full BMWSH, only been used at weekends. Will be checking with BMW on records of services to be sure.

The leather is a tad unclean because it is cream coloured; nothing that cannot be replaced though. Had my M5 re done on the interior.

Hi Nick, good luck.  You might need to replace both the batteries if its been left sitting for a while unless its been on a battery tender.

Ok chaps help required.

On the ABS front, the ABS has failed, it seems to be electrical, however, I guess there is one of you out there that may have some sound advice. Another question is could this be related to the ASC failure? Any suggestions would be good before I have to pull the car from this German vehicle specialist!

Is anybody out there up on the diagnostics on an 840? I'm an IT bod and all I need is the software and the connectors for a laptop. Can anybody inform me of software for an 840 diagnostic etc.

Hi Nick, The ASC uses the ABS sensors. I suggest you replace both front ABS sensors. Do you know how to set the OBC to show velocity (Option 08) in diagnostic mode - this uses the ABS sensor, if no reading - indicates dodgy ABS sensors.

Hi got to agree with you they are the business i get from 17mpg on the CSI through to 22 and 25 on the 840's auto 4 and 4.4 engines. 26 on the manual 840. On a good run the motorway and not caned you should be good for 26 on both the 840 and 850 but not the CSI

But what the hell its just getting into them and driving them, don't forget the manual very different beast but fun all the same.

 

Enjoy the monment when you see another 8 on the road, shame the register does so little!!!!
