I've see the Style 33 16" alloys (from the '96 on 5 Series) on a few E34's and they look pretty OK if not a little anonymous. Breakers yards would be a good place to start (spigot rings would be required for a perfect fit)...

More stupid me. The first owner still had the wheels in his shed. I could've taken them with the car. Steelies with hubcaps though so i left them...

If it is in fact an '89 520 you have then the metric alloys (made by BBS) would have been (stupidly) retrofitted by a previous owner. AFAIK they only appeared on the late '94-early '96 facelifted E34's....

I was quoted £155 by eiretyres.com so thats not bad..... It's the fact that i can't pop into my local tyre fitter and pick one up. Waiting 3 days for a tyre when i need one doesn't appeal to me. Thanks for the info though.

I drove my 3 Series with 16" tyres and lowered suspension for the last years of my teenage life. Now, at 22, I prefer the gentle, comforting ride of my stock 5 Series suspension... BB |

Lowering cars on our roads doesn't make much sense to me though. 30-40mm maybe but even that's a bit much for a few of the roads out our way. Comfort's the key (I must be getting old cos i can't believe I just said that) |

Ditto the Alpinas and M-Parallels, sweet, any rim with a deep dish really suit
the E34, but beware, if you go with those wheels you'll be thinking about lowering the car, and from there on you're on a slippery slope! |

I'm thinking that the previous owner has changed the wheels at some stage because these are definitely the wheels currently fitted and I already have the 50 - 70 mph wobble. They are unfortunately metric though having 165TR390 stamped on the wheel itself, and tyres being 225 / 55 R390. I'll upload a pic of the actual wheel this evening. The Alpina's look well on it but the m-parallells are top o the list at this stage. Now to find a set......

Just checking that the car you are looking to put wheels on is the one suggested by your forum name? The wheels in the pic you posted look like style 13 15" wheels from an e36 (as per my 325i) and these were not metrics. On the early e34, iirc, there were 2 common alloy wheel options, the 15" x-spokes - which I think look great on the e34, and a set of metrics that were described as TD wheels. The link below is a guide to most of the official BMW wheels. It seems to be complete from around '90 onwards. |

I think the M-Parallels look really well, I put 18" reps on my Touring: http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?alb um=lastup&cat=10015&pos=3
Just make sure that whatever wheels you get are either hub-centric or that you get some spigot rings as otherwise you'll experience really bad vibrations between 55 and 70 mph. |

Ben on the forum here used to have a set of Alpinas on his E34... simply fantastic looking! You should be able to find a decent set of new replicas on eBay for decent money.
ps... if you do go for E39 wheels, I think you'll need some sort of spigott ring to help position the wheel on the hub. **I think** |
