Hi Folks
I am currently looking at getting a 1988+ 635CSi, a car I have admired for many many years, however, I am worried about the availability of parts for these beauties. Do they share service parts with other BMWs or are they available through specialist stockist. |

Mechanical parts are generally easily available through:-
New:- 1. Specialists - there are a few. 2. Retailers such as GSF and Euro Car Parts 3. Dealers. The stock held by BMW is superb and while some prices are frightening, others are remarkably reasonable Secondhand and online:- here, eBay, www.bigcoupe.com [shameless plug]www.bavarianretro.co.uk[/shameless plug] Body panels are a different matter and are dreadfully expensive or NLA. Secondhand is your best bet. When mine was restored, many panels had to be hand made. As it goes, I've just taken in a Highline - as '88 on cars are referred to - to break, so if there's anything you are looking for, please give me a shout. Edited by m3Cecotto |

Bits & bobs I've come across... http://stores.shop.ebay.ie/bmwspareparts4_BMW-E24-628-630-63 3-635-M635_W0QQ_fsubZ17460602QQ_sidZ669937165QQ_trksidZp4634 Q2ec0Q2em322 http://stores.shop.ebay.ie/BMW-SPARES-GLOUCESTERSHIRE_E24-6- SERIES_W0QQ_fsubZ296651014QQ_sidZ294241144QQ_trksidZp4634Q2e c0Q2em322 http://stores.shop.ebay.ie/J-A-Motor-Supplies_BMW_W0QQ_fsubZ 16QQ_sidZ35658327QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 Edited by alpina17 |

The post '82 E24 shares engine & gearbox with the E32 7-series. The 635 & 735 have 220bhp while the very similar E34 535 ('88 on) has only 211bhp.
Chassis-wise, the post '82 E24 is based on the E28 5-series (up to '88). Pre '82 the Six was based on the externally similar E12 5-series & it's all different. When looking at a Six to buy, forget about mechanicals & concentrate on the bodywork. This is where the potential money pit will be. A full restoration will cost more than the car is worth though one day that may change. Unless it's lived in a museum from day one it will have rust somewhere. Just make sure there's not too much of it! Always buy the very best Six you can find. People are starting to hang on to the good ones. See the other thread on this sub-forum. Beware - some of the pictures might be upsetting to E24 owners! |

Just saw a nice looking 635 Csi Motorsport sold on the "Old Colonel" site, don't know how much it went for though.

As far as I can remember £9, 000, think if I was spending that much would be searching for an M to be honest

Yes but an M635 in that condition would be another £3k or £4k at least.
Actually, £9000 is pretty good - the days of getting a mint E24 for £3000 are long gone. They've been under-valued for far too long. I'd want more than that for my Motorsport if I ever came to sell it. |
