As I have not been to one of these before, do they do a wash-up at the end of the session and answer questions?

Just a few obvious ones - you could maybe think of more (don't answer them just now, let's see what Dastek have to say in reply  )

  • Do you have to declare mods to the insurance?
  • Does modifying affect your insurance premium and by how much?
  • Does it affect BMW warranties?
  • Is it detectable on BMW service computers?
  • what part of the maps are modified?

etc etc

I guess they could and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to advocate their uni-chip. What I like about Dastek is that they're prepared to expose many of the tuning myths about chip upgrades. Gerry really comes across as a guy who's seen it all and knows his stuff and is prepared to advise against mods where value is minimal.

However the answers to your questions all seem obvious Neil..

Dastek use a piggy ecu rather than re-map your std flash.. which, unless the BMW technician is blind, will be detectable. However it's designed so that it can be removed.

However what's interesting is that the gain on a std car will be very small.. They managed only 1.5% gain on M 8LUR to the stock ecu. To gain more you're going to need to bypass the AFM and that will require their equivalent to the Alpha N module. Gains on non-M cars are usually better and of course only a different map can really make use of the increased potential of a better induction or exhaust. Hope this helps m8 tho a std ecu can be shown to adapt and increase power as I've seen in the M.

The RR day itself is a good opportunity to see what your cars are running, whether any mods are actually adding value and to seek advice from the Dastek team. I'm sure it will turn out to be a good day out and it's one of the few events that is not weather dependant.

Jon

Just found out work will be 1 down on Wednesday

Can you shift me to the reserve list and if someone else can fill my slot with an earlier arrival go for it

With 1 down I could be as late as 7pm which is no good to anybody and I'd hate to take a place which someone else can use at the correct time so if someone else can make up the numbers accept their offer

I can always spectate and catch the next one

Cheers

Mal

Chris (tigger), just ignore Jon, I'm like yourself & if running at anything above standard will be pleased.  He only does it because he runs round in a hairdressers car!!!

Aye - sounds like you can fill in for Malc m8.. welcoem BTW.. just turn up as soon as you can as I suspect the list will prove quite flexible..

There's also a chance M 8LUR might not be back from Glasgow in time but I'll make it along regardless.

If one of the early lot can help get the ball rolling and I'll get there as soon as poss.
