Hi guys, hope someone can help with my dilemma! Having previously owned a E30 325 cabrio, and just sold a E36 M3 coupe- im in the position of buying a nice E30 320 cab, and my concern is grunt! Will a 325 engine swop be a fairly straight forward transplant? If not any mods to help the baby straight6?

Hi rich i did this conversion just before christmas. You will need either a 325i ecu or a chip upgrade off the e30zone.co.uk(i think its Ant deals with this.)and the right size inlet bellows(320 is smaller)Gsf parts sell these £12.I swapped my flywheel from my 320 and fitted a new clutch(as the 325 was an auto). You find also 325s run an oil cooler. If you haven't got one just  remove the main oil filter housing off the 325 engine block and the threaded stud from your 320(remove oil filter first to reveal this).and swap.Ever thing else is a straight swap.No problems so far after 4 months.

I did this job too a couple of yrs ago. I found the best
way was to buy a mechanically good but ropy 325i
and just swap the bits over - engine, gearbox (I used
the existing 320i loom). The 320i rad was the same
and initially I used the 320i diff - but it was so revvy at
speed, i soon fitted the 325i diff! It's all nuts and bolts
really.

P>S the 325i gearbox was a bit growly so I refitted
the 320i box and it's fine.
